Most Well Known Enterprise (Captain Kirk) OS Adventures

Vulcans are founding members of the Federation. I would imagine that a request from their highest leader regarding one of their own legends would carry some weight.

So then the Federation is really no different than governments today? More concerned with image than truth...

But this whole thing totally discounts that this is a secret that would already have to be out of the bag. Vulcan had been a Federation member for a century, Vulcan traders are not an unusual phenomenon, humans are living on Vulcan and you have at least one human who has married a Vulcan.

Incredibly unlikely that Pon Farr is a secret.

I've wondered about transporters for years. It would seem to me that since it apparently has to scan every person or object down to the subatomic level in order to transport it that it would easily detect and record what was being transported.

Early ST:TNG episodes seemed to reflect this as there were several references to the "bio filter". Though this seems to have eventually been abandoned after the third season or so.

But.

If episodes like the one with Data's "mother" she was transported without the transporter ever apparently noticing that she was an android and not actually alive.

I've wondered if there is something in the transporter process that prevents detecting and recording various types of information.

Yet obvious is.

Neither Kirk nor McCoy have a clue about it. And they are not only the CO and CMO of the ship Spock is serving on but his two closest friends as well.

For that matter Spock had already served more than a decade aboard the Enterprise and apparently it is still a secret and not mentioned in the medical logs that McCoy had access too.

Also note that despite being a veteran Starfleet doctor, McCoy until "Journey To Babel" had NEVER operated on a Vulcan before so apparently, Vulcans keep lots of secrets close to the vest.

Even a decade later, in The Search for Spock, Kirk, Spock, and Admiral Morrow didn't have a clue about Vulcan's Katras or the various ceremonies and procedures associated with them. Morrow snidely dismissed it as "Vulcan mysticism".

.

Go back and watch "Court Martial." Commodore Stone really wanted to sweep that matter under the rug in order to protect Starfleet's reputation . . . ..

Which means absolutely nothing. Obviously, M'Benga showed up on the Enterprise with credentials in Vulcan medicine. A human doctor. McCoy likely didn't connect the dots that it was a sexual dysfunction Spock was suffering from.

Was there ever a reason for either to dig into Vulcan religious practices?

?

It means everything. It means that Vulcans only divulge medical secrets to humans that live among them for an extended period (which is implied in the episode regarding M'Benga).

And it is entirely possible that M'Benga was sworn not to reveal sensitive medical data regarding Vulcans unless absolutely necessary (as in the case of Nurse Chapel).

According to Federation HIPAA regulations. "Amok Time" didn't happen.

Did Captain Pike dictate his memoirs in binary?

Remember that in "Flashback" (Voyager), Janeway comments that Sulu didn't enter the incidents into his official log, but only makes a vague reference to the ship being damaged in a gaseous anomaly and needing repairs. So it's apparently possible for a Captain to get around whatever logs are automatically made by a starship. And we did see Data and LaForge wiping system logs in "Clues".
