Most unreliable parts of the Enterprise

You know what could have been fun for an episode to have something like maybe a rat running around loose on the ship.

That might have worked on any of the versions of the Enterprise that Kirk was captain of. Or maybe even Voyager where actual food was cooked, as those ships had actual gallies.
With tribbles, you don't need rats!

<On a violently shaking bridge>
- Captain! The bathroom waste disposal matter energy conversion systems are unstable and will explode in a cascade reaction 3 minutes from now!
- What!?
- I said: the bathroom waste disposal matter energy ..
- I heard you the first time! We have complete bathrooms on board? I've never seen anything beyond a faucet/sink combination!
:lol::lol:

IDK I always loved the decor in TNG. In hindsight I can agree that the bridge could have used a few more stations to make it look more exiting.
But the Enterprise in general? The colours, the carpets, the potted plants. I love it. It really looks like a place that designed to give a bit of a "homey" feel for long term habitation.

And I like that better than the shows who make most of their ships grey metal and...a really cold blue...for some reason...(ENT, DISC)

One thing is for certain: for every episode that shows us all the things that go wrong with the ship, repeatedly for some systems, we can ascertain that amongst all that -- the toilets never fail. Otherwise, we'd have had an episode about catastrophic toilet failure or being taken over by evil aliens.

Imagine the Captain Picard being held captive by his own toilet, perhaps by some small brown alien that looks like a turd.

Or worse, a Golgothan!

If you don't know...and you probably don't want to know...look up the movie Dogma.

There's at least a handful of times when the artificial gravity fails: in TUC (when Kronos One was attacked), and in the VOY episode "Prey"(?), when Species 8472 presumably causes some damage, as well as in episodes of ENT and DISCO. Relatively rare compared to the other malfunctions though. In RL of course it's a budget item if they portray that, but in-universe we could postulate that it's the kind of thing where even if the artificial gravity generators are damaged there aren't instantaneous effects.
And several episodes of TAS.

I think the most RELIABLE system on the Enterprise is their artificial gravity. NEVER fails. (I know, budget reasons, but still.)

In TAS (Practical Joker?) Kirk fell from the ceiling.

Before that, little kid me thought each deck plate had its own gravity cooked into it somehow

The consoles seem pretty unreliable to me. They explode fairly quickly.

In that case, I'd estimate the probability of the artificial gravity failing (as a very rough 1st order approximation) to be about 1 against 10^(10^52) odds, which would mean it is a reasonably reliable system indeed.

(This is based on a very rough approximation of the probability of Earth suddenly disappearing, in which case the studio could film in zero gravity without budget considerations. Of course some people might be slightly preoccupied with other things (such as there being no more air either) and not actually take advantage of this opportunity, but unfortunately you'll always have such types around that think in problems rather than in opportunities.).
