Which character from the show did you think was the most overrated?

I think this is the "Most Underrated." --HR

i thouht this was the overrated so I picked archer. Most underrated character was probably Travis, but that was the writers giving up on him even though they had a lot to tell still.

Eyerist is right about the thread/question mismatch. But for most underrated I'm going with Mayweather.

I think they didn't make enough of his Boomer past. Granted he got overshadowed by T'Pol and the Vulcan database and Hoshi's language skills. I could imagine that Mayweather picked up some different alien languages along the way. And Trip became Archer's trusted friend and sounding board.

It started out a bit promising in "Broken Bow" for Mayweather but never really materialized. And when they did try to give Mayweather a bit more to do, like his relationship with Gannett Brooks it felt like they were reacting to not giving him stuff to do previously than growing his character organically. That being said I did like him in the Mirror Universe episodes. I think he had chemistry with Hoshi and wish more had been done to pair them together.

Heck,Trek Lit. has done a better job with Mayweather. I liked how he had beef with Archer before the Romulan War books. I also think the post-Romulan War books are doing okay where he's concerned.

That's why I screwed up my pick. I figured something fishy was up with this thread.

That's why I was right with my choice to pick Porthos as most underrated..... It's a fact that he isn't included at all.... so definitely underrated...;)

I don't necessarily feel Travis was "underrated" - just underutilized. I can't really decide if he's underrated because he's so disrespectfully treated in the first place. As far as popularity, I like Malcom Reed and nobody seems to rate him very highly, so I guess that would make him "underrated." Unfortunately, they didn't really feel like endowing much of anyone on Enterprise with personality, so it is what it is.

I like Malcolm. I think a lot of people do.
But I picked Phlox. The best actor on the show, and always a strong part of any ep he was in. Also, it's refreshing to see an alien presented as unapologetically weird, rather than lapsing into "he's just like us, really" as Trek usually does.
Travis was underutilised because the actor was crap.

I really liked Malcom Reed. I know some people don't like him, but I liked how he was a British military guy, who undid the explosive mines in Romulan space and found out how to beef up the Phase(r) weapons to bypass the Borg shields that was later utilized by Doctor Crusher.

Phlox and Mayweather were good, but Mayweather was underutilized, except on episodes dealing with Earth Cargo ships. I liked the on the Horizon, say what you want about Enterprise. The alien doctor found the cure for the Borg nano probes and worked his way around the Klingon Argument virus to create the human-like Klingons of the Original Series.

Anthony Montgomery comes across as enthusiastic and outgoing in interviews. Very different from Travis. I doubt he's that bad as a actor.

reed was funny when allowed to be
i heard he didnt want his own ep
as he was sure it would be one of those terrible doomed romance ones
i cant remember the source

Agreed! And let's not forget the force field he beefed up in Vox Sola. And, for a weapons/tactics guy, he was quite knowledgeable in the engineering field. He assisted Trip on several projects if I recall. And, he knew what to do with the engines to blow up the guy in Harbinger.

Oh, and that scene where he rigged the pistol too blow up the Romulans drone was one of my favorite of the series.

I find T'Pal to be underrated, most typically comment about her looks in a derogatory sense, but I really enjoyed her as a character, being a Vulcan and serving on a ship of irrational humans, eventually learning to somewhat appreciate our kind. Although, I am pretty biased, as I think the Vulcans are the most interesting Alien race in the Star Trek universe.
