Most Trek-like Films Not Star Trek

The Hunt for Red October is just Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country underwater. :shifty:

Kor

Citizen Kang: Kang lives a full life during which he keeps saying "Mushroom Spore" from time to time. People wonder what he means by that until the end when it's found out that it's the name of an escape pod...

Down Periscope :guffaw:
It's 12% on Rotten Tomatoes? Travesty! It's a fun and lighthearted movie that I have seen more than a couple times. There are much worse movies with higher scores on RT. And it's very close to reality 6.1 on IMDb. Bleeh, tells you all you need to know about RT

Seriously, screw RT:

I rarely agree with their scores.

John Paul Jones (1959) starring Robert Stack. Kirk in a ship-to-ship fight to the bitter end. With his ship burning and in ruins, he radios to his opponent, "I have not yet begun to fight!" This is starting to sound like TWOK...never mind.

It's a movie that gets a lot of the Navy stuff dead on and gets a lot of the Navy stuff terribly wrong. Just like Star Trek. It's a favorite among Navy submariners because it captures the irreverent attitude of theirs to a tee.

Psycho (Voyager version): Suder kills women in the sonic shower... and he talks (telepathically) to his dead mother... Tuvok tries to understand his motives, so he mind-melds with him and then strangles, Neelix, Kim, and Paris...

Rotten Tomatoes is the crookedest movie-related site out there; if they want to really push a certain movie with a certain agenda, they'll delete any negative review of it so it has a 100% positive rating, like they did with Black Panther; they already proved their reviews are completely based on race, not quality.

Worf The Ape Man: Worf's runabout crashes in the middle of a jungle. The runabout is swallowed by (nasty alien) quicksands and Worf barely escapes alive with nothing of his technology left, plus the shock made him an amnesiac. He now lives with the local apes. When Jadzia finally retrieve him, he's all but forgotten language. "Me Worf, you Jadzia." is the first thing he manages to say to her.

Turkish Star Trek (easy)

Sand Pebbles in a different setting would have been a Star Trek movie. (Robert Wise film, too)

The Black Hole had a very Roddenberrian obsession with gods and creators, etc. Make the Palomino crew a landing party from Enterprise and you've got a Star Trek movie.

Anything from Horatio Hornblower.

Master and Commander

The Exorcist: Worf is possessed by Fek'lhr The Guardian of Gre'thor. He speaks softly and politely. He can't stand live food and becomes a vegetarian! He never says a word about battles, honor, and dresses in three-piece-suits. Jadzia through her Klingon friends gets two monks from Boreth to show up...

Eh, I really didn’t like it either.

You're entitled to your wrong opinion ;)
well I for one am writing a strongly worded letter to management about this !!!

edit: Critics and general audiences having wildly different opinions about a film isn't really anything new. I quite enjoyed the new Independence Day movie, yeah it was dumb, yeah it was badly written, yeah there was an entire character whose whole purpose was to get audiences in China. The critics are right, it's an awful movie by any standard, yet I was somehow entertained by it.

Down Periscope was hilarious, and had a little heart to it as well.
