Most ridiculous thing about TOS

I knew there were three different versions! People here have said there were only two, but I remember the gold braid on the shoulders/lapels going two different directions before they put it on the sleeves. And when they did finally put the braid on the sleeves, they put a black border around the neck, with gold piping around it.

Well, version 1 is the same in "The Enemy Within" and "Court Martial." That's the one with braid on the shoulders.

Version 2 is seen only in "The Doomsday Machine," and that's when the sleeves got the braid:

Version 3 is a lot like 2, but they added the black piping to the V-neck.

I'm new here and I have basically joined just for one reason, and that is the talk about the Uniforms, and people complaining about it not being military, but can we just remember that the Enterprise is an exploration ship and crew, not military.

Just to say as well, I really enjoyed reading the debates about it.

They only made velour wraparounds. There were three different versions ("The Enemy Within", "The Doomsday Machine", "The Apple"). They never made a synthetic fabric version for S3.

"Let yourself go, Leela. It's real velour!" :guffaw:

Zap! You're absolutely right, that was my point, I just got so distracted by velour's luxurious goodness that I meant to say, they didn't make a polyester wraparound. Thanks for pointing that out! I think in season 3, the velour was gone and the synthetic was the only one. Strange that Bones had a synthetic off and on all three seasons, maybe it was meant to be a better uniform for actual medical procedures.

Welcome to the funny farm!

It's always odd to me to see these comments from people who started watching TOS decades after it was off the air, and holding it to standards that were beyond imagining in 1966. I really don't mean this in a bad way, but I kinda feel sorry for the folks who weren't there when TOS (and TAS) was all we had, and got to see it all start. It must be weird to have it all available at the same time, where TOS may suffer in comparison because of the time period it was produced and the effects available, as well as ideas about what we would have in the future.

There are many people for whom TOS is not their favorite Trek series, and I find that completely unfathomable. I mean I get how that might happen, but Star Trek IS TOS to me.

Bones' alt was a surgical-scrub kinda shirt. I always thought it was flat and shiney, but saw one in person at the Detroit science center and it had a scratchy weave aspect to it, and photographed shinier. I'll bet there are pics at star trek prop authority. The poly command tunic there definitely had an olive cast, but it was neither green nor gold, btw. Truly a chartreuse, as discussed in other threads, no pun intended. Threads, get it?
