Most ridiculous thing about TOS

AdmiralBruno

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
I still remember in the original pilot when Captain Pike had a clipboard with paper on it. I loled so hard at that. They got rid of it in the regular series, but it was so ridiculous that anyone could think this would be something in use in the 23rd century.... Thoughts?

I've definitely gotten a lot of mileage out of it over the years. From watching in syndication to VHS to DVD, and now Blu-ray. I've probably seen every episode at least twenty-five times.

Oh, at LEAST 25 times. Now that my young boys are getting into it, there's episodes I've probably seen over 50 times. They love Corbomite, Arena, and Tribbles so those play A LOT in the Vger23 household these days!

That's probably the most "ridiculous" thing is how often I've seen some of these television episodes!

The weirdest thing is I still sometimes find things I'm noticing for the first time or another way to think about the material the episode is presenting.

Star Trek probably has had a bigger impact in forming who I am than any other single thing.

Agreed on both counts!

There are quite a few things I could name but why bother..my enjoyment of it outweighs them.

I think the clipboard could still be seen in WNMHGB in the briefing room scene. But it was indeed anachronistic. At that point, though, they still hadn't a firm idea of when the series was supposed to be set.

Beyond that, a futuristic TV series needs touchstones that are recognizable to their audiences.

Echoing, but ridiculous how much I like it!
The ship was taken over one too many times, admittedly.

They were still using slide rules in the 60s, it took monumental effort to get a scaled-down computer into the Apollo.

I loved the tabletop style computer terminals we saw in the Briefing Room. I only wish we had seen more of those instead of the clunky '50's style terminals we sometimes saw such as in starbase scenes.

Yeah, they had a big book to look up comets in "Balance of Terror," too. Nobody knew how anachronistic it might be, that's part of the charm.

I'm no feminist by any means, but a female uniform that constantly flashes her panties. Ultimately for me I guess, it's undignified and unprofessional looking. Sure the two pilots depicted a trouser option on the likes of Number One & Elizabeth Dehner, but they were no where to be seen in the series.
