Most important series/movies for The Franchise

Without these, not all of which are Star Trek, The Franchise would've turned out very differently:

Star Trek (TOS) -- If nothing else, for starting the whole thing in the first place. Also, with only three seasons, there would later be demand for more of Star Trek on television, which probably wouldn't have happened if the series had run 15 seasons.

Star Wars (1977) -- Started what led to a market and greater demand for sci-fi in the cinema but if not for...

Close Encounters of the Third Kind -- Star Wars would've been seen as a once-in-a-lifetime fluke. This movie proved SW wasn't a fluke. This, in addition to Paramount's fourth network collapsing led to Star Trek: Phase II becoming Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan -- A fan-favorite that also proved Star Trek could be reliable with the right budget. This strategy worked until the late-'90s. The continued success of the sequels, on those terms, led into an expansion back to television (finally).

Star Trek: The Next Generation -- Star Trek's return to television was so successful that it created a new generation of fans, with four of its own films and three more series were spun off from it.

Star Trek: Nemesis -- Without its failure at the box office, Paramount still might not have rebooted Star Trek. Why go back to the basics if you don't need to? For all we know we could have gotten more TNG movies or, later on, the Romulan War idea might have had a chance of actually coming to pass.

Batman Begins & Casino Royale -- I have no proof but this pair of movies probably influenced Paramount's decision to reboot Star Trek as well.

Star Trek (2009) -- Literally brought Star Trek back from the dead. Without it Star Trek would've continued to be seen just a relic from the 20th Century and nothing more, like it was for most of the decade.
