Most iconic Star Trek moments

JarodRussell

What are for you the most memorable, most iconic, most awesome moments in Star Trek, in TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT and the movies?

Two that immediately come to mind:

TNG:

"We've made too many compromises already. Too many retreats. They invade our space and we fall back. They assimilate entire worlds and well fall back. Not again. The line must be drawn heyah! This far, no farther! And I will make them pay for what they've done!"

DS9:

Laying eyes on the fleet seen at the end of Call to Arms

Hmmm... memorable/important moments are one thing. But truly iconic/historic moments.. that's a tough one...

I'd probably agree with Spock's death scene.

Riker's "Mr. Worf...fire" is one of the greatest TV cliff-hangers of all time.

And Picard's final "THERE...ARE...FOUR...LIGHTS!" is epic as shit.

Spock's death and funeral, obviously.

The Kelvin scene and birth of James T. Kirk. I think time will not only be kind, but it will become an iconic moment in Trek.

While I have many favorite and well loved moments from the series; I cannot think of any which actually reached iconic status for me.
-TNG's Inner Light is perhaps the most moving for me... that lonely flute music speaks emotional volumes.
-Kirk opening the hatch and Scotty beaming the tribbles to the Klingon ship "where they will be no tribble at all" are close to iconic, because most people know what you are talking about if you mention them.

Most of the ones I first thought of are already covered.

Going forward I suspect Kirk's birth in '09 will count.

I'll propose the shot of the Enterprise heading towards the edge of the galaxy in WNMHGB and the shot of the Tholian web surrounding the Enterprise in the aptly-named episode.

It would be fun to count Cochrane shaking hands with/shooting the Vulcan during First Contact, depending on which universe you're in.

Some obvious ones have already been mentioned, but I'd say the first shots of Kirk looking at the new Enterprise from TMP. Combined with the now iconic music, it makes for one heck of a scene!

Locutus making his appearance on the view screen in The Best of Both Worlds.

Kirk's eulogy for Spock in The Wrath of Khan.

The fight to retake DS9 in Sacrifice of Angels.

The first view of a Borg Cube in Q Who?

The destruction of the 1701-D in Cause and Effect.

The Defiant powering up in In A Mirror, Darkly.

TOS - Kirk, Kang, and company laughing at the end of "Day of the Dove"

TNG - "Mr. Worf, fire."

DS9 - The decloking of the Romulan fleet in "By Inferno's Light"

VOY - The destruction of two Borg cubes at the beginning of "Scorpion"

ENT - The Andorians come racing to the rescue in "Zero Hour"

MOVIES - Spock's funeral, of course. Closely followed by the destruction of Chang's Bird of Prey in "The Undiscovered Country"

If we're talking iconic in the general sense, surely Kirk and Uhura's kiss, Spock's image, and the presence of Sulu, Chekov and Uhura on the Bridge are about as iconic as they come. I don't think anything in the modern series have come close to having the level of impact those have...

For me:

James R Kirk's gravestone
Spock taking away Jim's pain at the end of Requiem
Spock dying in the dilithium chamber and Kirk outside
Kirk being prevented from saving Edith in City
The look in Kirk's eyes when he sees the Enterprise in TMP

Just a few. Most if not all of my iconic moments come from Star Trek.

I second all of those - brilliant scenes seared onto the public consciousness. In fact, I'd include anything to do with Where No Man Has Gone Before but that's just me...

...pretty much sums up a turning point in the whole franchise thing. I know I certainly felt the moment when I saw that scene all those years ago.

Yeah, I'll vote for that one...

For me, the speech McCoy gives where he says something about how in the galaxy there are a whole bunch of planets and lots of life, but only one Kirk. (I'm paraphrasing here. I'm sure someone will bring up the actual quote.)

Kirk's pep-talk about the unknown from the Sargon episode.

Kirk discussing "Sea Fever" from Ultimate Computer.

"Let's get the Hell out of there."

I think there really are only two.

"Beam me up, Scotty" & "He's dead, Jim."

Icons have nothing to do with facticity.

Kirk: "Let's get the hell out of here".

Not sure why, but that scene is burned into my brain.

"In this galaxy, there's a mathematical probability of three million Earth-type planets. And, in all the universe, three million million galaxies like this. And in all of that – and perhaps more – only one of each of us. . . . Don't destroy the one named 'Kirk'." (Balance of Terror)

I agree, for me personally, this speech is definitely one of the iconic moments in Trek. It's one of my favorite quotes in all of Star Trek.

I'd also put Spock's death and funeral scene and the reveal of the Enterprise from TMP on my list.
