The Kazon... inferior in so many ways. So glad they got away from them. It just took too long. And trying to remember all the sects was a chore...

I had forgotten the Kazon-Halik. I had to check Memory Alpha to see that they were mentioned in "Basics".
And I have watched that episode so many times!

Plus the Kazon-Sara. I've seen that name somewhere, can't remember where right now and the Kazon-Vistik who show up in the book "Mosaic" by Jeri Taylor.

At the time of Voyager's presence in the Delta Quadrant, there were 18 Kazon sects. Would be great to know who the other were.

I'm toying with the idea of designing a page on the Kes Website to the different Kazon sects.

I also wonder if I'm one of the few who really like the Kazon. They were great villains.

The scenario with the Kazon owerthrowing the Trabe and then starting fighting each other is actually very realistic. It have happened in many countries which had become independent after a long struggle for freedom.

My biggest problems with the Kazon is that they make little sense, so a bunch of them sit around all day outside the underground Occampan city, but they feel sorry for themselves they have little food and water, but they have fleets of Starships... They were miners.
According to Neelix, the planet has rich deposits of Cormaline which they were mining. Obviously they used slave labor as well.

My theory about the shortage of food and water are that they were under siege from some other Kazon sects, most likely the Nistrim. Therefore the shortage. Otherwise they could have gomne to some outer planet of the system to find ice which could be transformed to water. Obviously they also traded the Cormaline to other Kazon sects and other species for food and water.

The way I took it was that each sect had it's own territory with different resources. Some planets have water some don't. So the ones we saw in Caretaker didn't have water on the planets that were in their territory.

Indeed it seems that's why they knew how to run their ships but needed help in designing or building anything new.

The Kazon could have been interesting... if they were handled better.

They should have made them more intelligent. It's so hard taking idiots seriously. Plus, with their what seems to have been bare minimum amount of tech people, given how much infighting they do daily, it seems likely that they'd basically all but die off within a generation or two. To quote Ambassador Kosh from BABYLON 5, "They are a dying race."

To me, once Seska left the ship, the Kazon were nothing more than her hired goons... a James Bond villain of SPECTRE with the Kazon being the henchmen.

For me it was either the aliens the 2 Ferengi were swindling or the aliens who lived on a planet with a force field surrounding them and Choctay and Seven were stuck their, while the more advanced aliens of the species were busy making Tom Paris take flying lessons.
I generally dislike primitive aliens in Star Trek.

I won't say that I dislike them, but the least interesting species for me were the Hirogen, followed by the Vaadwaur!

I also felt the Kazon were a okay villian except in one episode with the actor who played Nog. That was the ep were they made them to Klingony but that was just a single episode.

Yeah I have to believe that the Kazon were pretty incapable on their own and largely relied on other people's technology in order to be out there in space alongside Voyager. Also they were not a unified culture so some sects were better equipped than others.
But of course they would be destroyed against the Klingons! Not so much a warrior culture as a gang culture is the concept with the Kazon.

The Kazon are more a clan/tribal culture.

They seem like they were never unified to begin with, got enslaved by the Trabe, overthrew the Trabe, and then went back to their internecine conflict while stealing everything not nailed down in their vicinity.
