Most Anticipated 2011 Films

It's because none of them had a wide release. I don't live in LA and can't afford to go to film festivals.

Mr. Light: You could easily do a lot worse than not checking out iTunes rentals (or OnDemand, if you have cable/satellite) for any of those films. Most, if not all, of those are going to be in my "top 10 of 2010" list.

Starbreaker: I live in middle of nowhere, Indiana, and I still managed to see them.

I'm interested in Cowboys & Aliens and Sherlock Holmes 2, but I can't say there's anything (that I've heard of, as of yet) that has me terribly excited. Nothing's really grabbing me.

How one could call 2010 an "underwhelming" year with releases such as Nice Guy Johnny, Waiting for "Superman," City Island, Leaves of Grass, Winter's Bone, and The Kids Are All Right (to name a few) is... perplexing.
I honestly don't know what any of those movies are about ;)

I have three of those in Netflix, and the others...meh. But goes to show, whatever is good in 2011, we won't be hearing about it now.

Of the types of movies that get publicity this far in advance of release, Captain America and Source Code sound interesting.

Here is my top ten most anticipated films:

1. Source Code (Directed by Duncan Jones)
2. Green Lantern (Directed By Martin Campbell)
3. Sucker Punch (Directed by Zack Synder
4. Sherlock Holmes 2 (Directed By Guy Ritchie)
5. X-Men: First Class (Directed By Matthew Vaughn)
6. Captain America: First Avenger (Directed By Joe Johnson)
7. Red State (Directed by Kevin Smith)
8. Scream 4 (Directed By Wes Craven)
9. Mission Impossible IV (Directed By Brad Bird)
10.Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II (Directed By David Yates)

Other notables: Cabin in the Woods, Paranormal Activity 3, Winnie-The Pooh, Friends With Benefits, No Strings Attached, Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, Green Hornet, Rise of the Apes, Smurfs, Drive Angry, Contagion, Fright Night, Cowboys and Aliens, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, and Conan.

What a weak list. I'm always curious about superhero movies, as I have a bias towards the genre, but I'm not very excited about any of the big releases next year, as I'm not too familiar with characters like Green Lantern, Captain America, and Thor. Beyond that, I see a lot of unnecessary sequels when the last movie in the series was something that wasn't very impressive in the first place.

I'm much more excited about 2012 for the Star Trek and Batman sequels. At the moment, the only 2011 movie I'm the least bit interested in seeing is "The Green Hornet". I think the idea of a superhero movie that's just a straight comedy sounds cool and I like Seth Rogen and the director.

It's okay to have forgotten about "Cabin in the Woods" since it's been delayed and messed around with so many times. As for next year being a weak year...I beg to differ. Next year is like a warm up for 2012 as far as I'm concerned which essentially is gonna have a must see movie practically every weekend almost.

Most of my knowledge of superheroes (Marvel and DC) comes from animated shows, rather than comic books, because I don't like comic books. I enjoy certain things based on them (i.e. movies and TV shows), but comic books were just something I could never get into. I don't like their format where the pictures dominate the text and the words are in speech bubbles and boxes. The closest thing to a comic book I've ever enjoyed was "Watchmen", but that's formatted a little differently from most comic books.

The reason I'm a huge Batman fan and X-Men fan and liked Spider-Man enough to want to see the three Spider-Man movies is because my affection for these characters was inspired by them having animated shows that I watched in the '90s. I never saw a Captain America, Fantastic Four, or Thor animated show when I was a kid, and the only Green Lantern I know is from "Justice League".

I think Hal Jordan made some cameos in the DC Animated Universe, but I never saw any of them. That's why I know next to nothing about these characters besides what they look like and can't get too excited about their movies. I'm mildly interested in the movies because I like their directors, but the characters don't have a lot of appeal to me...yet. Maybe part of the reason I never had much desire to find out more about Captain America is the fact that I'm Canadian. :p

Sucker Punch
Thor
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
The Tree of Life
X-Men: First Class
Larry Crowne
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2
Winnie the Pooh
Captain America
Cowboys & Aliens
Sherlock Holmes 2
War Horse

Mostly franchise stuff on my radar at this point; for the smaller films, I usually have to get closer to the release date and start hearing reviews/buzz before I know I want to see them.

Oh, I forgot, I'm totally stoked about the new Muppets movie. I love some of the early ones and am a big fan of Jason Segal. I just forgot to mention it because it's not coming out till December 2011. I'd love to see a good Winnie the Pooh movie in theatres, but I'm more excited about Segal's Muppets resurrection.

what's that got to do with it? I'm british and Cap's one of my favourite characters... Cap's just fucking cool.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, part 2 is at the top of my list. I saw part one a few days ago and thought it was amazing. I also have varying levels of interest in:

Cowboys & Aliens
M:I:4
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
Source Code
Super 8
Transformers 3
X-Men: First Class

Interesting. Well I'm sure patriotism has something to do with the appeal for many of his fans. But as I said, the main reason is my lack of interest in comic books and his lack of a great animated series during my childhood. Are you a comic book reader?

I'm a big Cap fan, largely thanks to the Ed Brubaker comics (but I also have fond memories of his appearances in the 90s Spider-Man animated series).

Wow, I totally missed those episodes! Must have been fairly late in the show's run. I'm more familiar with the early episodes. I don't even remember Iron Man or Blade very much, although I know they appeared on the series as well. I was always more interested in the villains on that show more than guest heroes, anyway.

kinda. i mostly read the trades of the Ultimate Marvel imprint these days. when i was a teenager, i was reading X-Men and X-Force imports and watching the Spider-Man and X-Men cartoons (the 90s ones).

i mostly like Cap because he's a skinny kid who wants to whup ass and gets given a 1-in-a-million chance to do it and to do the right thing. something i never did get.

and, British or not, i like the idea of standing up for Truth, Justice and Liberty.

Have you seen how monstrously muscled up Chris Evans is for the movie? I forgot about Captain America starting off skinny (I believe I have been told about that before), and I doubt we'll see him that way in the movie unless they shot some footage before Chris Evans turned himself into a walking tank, which I find highly unlikely.
