Mortal Coil

One of my favorite episodes. I especially liked Neelix's reaction when his afterlife was disproved. The only thing I would have added might have been some lines from Seven ridiculing Neelix for being superstitious.
I don't think I would have liked that. He was already traumatized enough by having his faith shaken the way it was. That would be like her kicking him when he was down, no matter what she or anyone else might think of his beliefs.

Did anyone else think that the Great Forest in Neelix's vision (and the stories he told to Naomi) seemed similar to Naomi's Flotter program.

I don't think his afterlife was disproved he just didn't get there because he was still in this life. His vision quest was to help him value that. Shaking off your mortal coil is to do with your daily life and its troubles and insecurities, not your spirituality.

Seven didn't really ridicule people in the petty sense and given her struggle for humanity would hardly be much of a yardstick regards the metaphysical let alone spiritual. The Borg would have in their collective probably many cultures beliefs, yet not able to embrace a one. Probably the Borg's greatest weakness.

I hadn't thought about the Flotter program having that parallel. I guess nature lends itself to being a setting for what is not corrupted.

That's why Neelix is so disturbed when the great forest in Flotter is burned down. It brought back painful memories.

I agree and him thinking Naomi might be orphaned like he was.

I know Neelix wasn't always the most popular character. But when they did do episodes that featured him, IMO they were quite good. I guess because you were getting to see the pain behind the cheerful persona he wore most of the time.

If I recall correctly, the Borg in their quest for perfection, the Omega molecule was an object of unattainable perfection. Didn't Seven have an almost spiritual experience when she observed it up close?
