I know New Year's Day is typically the time for College Football and all that stuff, but I was thinking about this today and other than maybe a few games here or there, the world of Sports really does take the day off. Yeah you have the Winter Classic for Hockey, which I think is becoming an awesome new tradition, and maybe some NBA games, but there is nothing other than College Football at all during today. I was looking around the channels just to see what games were on, and it might actually be the deadest night of the year when it comes to sports. At least Christmas gives some NBA games and that night an NFL game but then you have stuff to do and time to spend with the family. What about New Years day though. No special family get togethers, no special dinners, and with nothing going on, tonight is ripe for something.
Also, the bowl tradition has been kind of ruined because there are 5 bowl games tomorrow, including the Cotton and Liberty. Anyone remember a time when after the Rose Bowl was played we only had 3 more bowl games to go?
I know we have a lot of college football fans here and it does rein supreme, but what say you. Should there be more alternatives on New Years day, like an NFL game and definitely more Hockey and Basketball. I know the NFL can go against a bowl game (especially one that was this one-sided) and it would be nice if there was more sports on this day.
