OK, here's my wish list with IDW, and just remember, I'm the captain of the U.S.S. Chesapeake, which was designed as a Borg-killer ship! (I jest.)
What IDW is doing right: Most of the Classic Trek stories are great. The best for me has been "Klingons: Blood Will Tell." I've also enjoyed the "Alien Spotlights" (which bounced around the "generations") and the Fontana/Purcell combination. Wonderful stuff and worth every hard-earned quatloo.
What IDW is doing wrong: For me, the TNG stories don't seem to work. I still don't know what happened in the first mini, and the second one had the Romulans going ridiculously out of their way to get Picard and the E-D to the trouble. Just kidnap them or beam them off the ship or something!
As far as writers and artists go, I'm happy with whoever turns in a great story. From Steve Conley's "retro '50s style" (which a lot of early Trek was based on) to Purcell's (ahem) careful mimickry of cast members' stills, they all can work well under the right conditions. I mean, if we could get George Perez to draw everything, then it'd be a perfect world, but as it is...
The series I most want to see explored now is the DS9 Relaunch. There's a lot of wonderful stuff going on back at the wormhole, and it's been such a long time since we had any new things to think about. How about it, someon? Marco or Krad, can you help us along with this? PLEEEZE?????
I'm looking forward to more Romulans from John Byrne and more Mirror minions popping up, too. This is one of those times when it's good to be the captain!
