More IDW - yes please!

And you know that some wiseguy would have done so. ;) Around here if one tries to give a brief answer, it's never long enough, and if one gives a long answer you're accused of being loquacious.

hey it's all good. don't know why i got so annoyed with that in the first place.

Dan Abnett is a British comics writer who started off at Marvel UK when all they used to do was a shit-load of licensed comics, writing (amongst others) The Real Ghostbusters and Thundercats.

Later on, he worked on The Sleaze Brothers which he created at Marvel UK before heading to the States, where he's written (IIRC) both Marvel and DC.

He is also a frequent novelist for Games Workshop's Black Library series of Warhammer 40,000 novels based on their tabletop wargame.

As I mentioned the last time this topic came up, Mike and I would absolutely love to work on some comics for IDW, and think that a TITAN comic would be one of the most visually cool comics Star Trek might ever see...

Given the poll results, it would seem the fans agree.

Not that we wouldn't work on an Excelsior book (since we've written two of those) or other lines (like a Trill spotlight) if given the chance! :bolian:

Counselor 626 probably won't be able to show up, though. :(

Titan, Excelsior and Trill Spotlight? All by MAM&AM? Yes, please!

^Seconded. I'd love to get a chance to actually see the non-humanoid Titan crewmembers. (Other than Orilly, K'chack'!'op, and Torvig, who CLB posted sketches of on his website. If you haven't seen them and want to their on Memory Beta also)

I am one for Titan becoming a comic, even if its a 5 part mini series that eventually turns into a series into itself. Just to get a glimpse at what artist who does get to work on the comic, thinks of how Christine Vale looks like too. Plus it would be nice to see Pava in comic form again too.
I also think the continuation of Marvels/Paramounts Early Voyages series where it left off would be great too. I did love that series and have every issue. Just one big cliffhanger that is not resolved yet. Would also be nice to see some of the Starfleet Academy characters, like Zund, Decker, Astrun, T'Priell and a few others come into the line.
Just so many possibilities.

Oh, Hell yes! Especially with how the SA series drops this plotline about the Viators in our laps in the last f'n issue! I could see this being picked up in a Titan story, with Pava recounting Omega Squad's previously unseen (but alluded to) encounter with the Viators and then Titan encountering them (whoever they are!) anew.

And four parts as of Mirror Images.
That could mean there'll be something interesting added for the trade, maybe? ("Blood Will Tell" had two versions of #1 in the trade, remember.)

Only because there were two versions of #1 published from the off though.

I would be rather irritated if IDW started putting bonus stories in the trades just because they opted to do a smaller run on a series.

I just wanted to say that I finished Part 1 of The Enterprise Expiement last night, and I thought it was great. I especially liked getting to see Arex get such a large role, because I've really liked him in TAS and NF.

And walking around, which he only got to do once in TAS ("The Terratin Incident").

Interesting that his race is revealed in TEE #1 to have psi powers; I don't recall the attribute being mentioned in his biography and the only TAS instance that comes close was that, unlike the other male crewmen, he seemed resistant to the Sirens' call in "The Lorelei Signal". And we did once see him communicating with a huge beast in DC Comics' sequel to "The Apple".

Yeah, the psychic thing kinda caught me off guard too, but I just assumed I missed a reference to it somewhere else. Now, what I'm wondering is whether or not Peter David will incorporate that into later NF stories or not.

I assume his resistance in "Lorelei" was a function of his nonhumanoid biology. And in that "Apple" sequel, Mike Carlin suddenly declared that Arex was the ship's "linguistics officer" and showed him using a translator device to decipher the animal's vocalizations. Nothing remotely psionic was involved.

It seems that everyone who uses Arex gives him a new job or ability to get more use from him than just steering the ship. Carlin made him a linguist, PAD made him a security officer, and now Fontana makes him a telepath.

This very subject of Arex's low-level telepathy came up in conversation with Dorothy when we were first preparing this book, and she said that yes, Arex was always intended to have the ability, they just never got to any stories on the Animated show where it came into play. Which, I would guess, is probably one of the reasons why she wanted to get it into the story this time around.

OK, here's my wish list with IDW, and just remember, I'm the captain of the U.S.S. Chesapeake, which was designed as a Borg-killer ship! (I jest.)

What IDW is doing right: Most of the Classic Trek stories are great. The best for me has been "Klingons: Blood Will Tell." I've also enjoyed the "Alien Spotlights" (which bounced around the "generations") and the Fontana/Purcell combination. Wonderful stuff and worth every hard-earned quatloo.

What IDW is doing wrong: For me, the TNG stories don't seem to work. I still don't know what happened in the first mini, and the second one had the Romulans going ridiculously out of their way to get Picard and the E-D to the trouble. Just kidnap them or beam them off the ship or something!

As far as writers and artists go, I'm happy with whoever turns in a great story. From Steve Conley's "retro '50s style" (which a lot of early Trek was based on) to Purcell's (ahem) careful mimickry of cast members' stills, they all can work well under the right conditions. I mean, if we could get George Perez to draw everything, then it'd be a perfect world, but as it is...

The series I most want to see explored now is the DS9 Relaunch. There's a lot of wonderful stuff going on back at the wormhole, and it's been such a long time since we had any new things to think about. How about it, someon? Marco or Krad, can you help us along with this? PLEEEZE?????

I'm looking forward to more Romulans from John Byrne and more Mirror minions popping up, too. This is one of those times when it's good to be the captain! :techman:
