Well, I'm back now.

I was wondering where you were. I thought you made a left turn and got lost.
Well, I was nowhere NEAR Albuquerque, so that excuse won't stand up! ;)

Seriously... I'm not going to rehash all of the garbage of the past couple of weeks on here, except to say that I'm very well aware, as are certain key persons on the BBS staff, of the "targeting" that went on for a while there. At this point, if I see further attempts to try to pick fights with me for the express purpose of getting group of pals to hit "report to mod" the moment I respond, I'll just pass it upstairs and let others more well-qualified to deal with it do so.

Wants a "we come in peace... (whispers to crewman) ...shoot to kill" line in the movie. Out of anyone in Trek history I belive only a old Kirk would be capable of carrying it out.

You know Superman, I don't agree with what Jessop said, but everytime something slightly insulting is said about Shatner, you need to make a counter comment, and I don't think it's particularly effective in stopping it from happening. It admitedlty doesn't happen all that often, but still...

I haven't been here all that long myself, but when you're commenting on all the silly little noobs, keep in mind you've been here all of a month.
My take on this is pretty simple...

The internet is just filled with people who THINK that they have "special rights" and that nobody else out there is as "real" as they are.

The same people who go crying and whining to mommmmy the first time someone says something even SLIGHTLY "less than fawning" about them, they go ballistic (or at least get together and get a group of pals to hit "report to mod" en-masse)... those people are typically the ones who are the LEAST concerned about the feelings of anyone else.

It seems that it's because they really don't see anyone else as being "real" except for them. I'm reminded of a guy who I saw on some late-night TV show a few years ago... a fairly popular guy, central-asian descent, a professor at some east-coast school who's written a bunch of fairly well-selling books... who claimed that he believed that he is the entire universe and that everything else... that's ALL OF US... we're just figments of his imagination, effectively.

It's a way of sounding "enlighted" while at the same time propping up one's own sense of absolute and total self-absorption as somehow being something other than the abject immorality that most people would treat it as.

That's what I see every time I see someone here go into a flame on someone who's not there to defend themself. The two people who most commonly get that, here on the "oh-so-open-minded TrekBBS" where "IDIC" is supposed to be central to everything, would be JMS (Babylon 5) and Shatner. I think that they're both just about tied for the sheer volume of brattish hatred spewed on them by the utterly self-absorbed types on here.

Superman is entirely correct, though I think Shatner would be the first guy to point out that the defense really isn't needed. Shatner is happy, successful, and doesn't feel the need to go on the internet and flame people he's never met. ;)

Shatner is also 70 years old. I'd hazard a guess that he's in FAR better health and better shape than any of his "detractors" will be at that age. Hell, the guy still rides horses... at an age when I'd bet his biggest "flamers" on here will be drooling and wetting themselves. ;)

So the ongoing bratty "flames" on Shatner (and similarly on JMS) don't really do any harm. But they DO tell us alllll about the person doing the flaming.

Well said, Cary.

Thank you for putting it this way.

Level heads do indeed prevail.

My head isn't always so level.

I love the extensive dissertation and psycological analysis taking place here, but it was nothing beyond shrewd humour that some people obviously don't appreciate. End of story, time to get over it. Now excuse me, I have to go crying to my mother because SUPERMAN called me a newb.

My ideal version of the story would be if Old Spock goes back, saves young Kirk, tells young Spock who he is, about Veridian 3, and then dies in the past. Let the movie end with young Spock and Kirk going off on their collective adventures and Spock with foreknowledge of Kirk's death. Let the audience and future movies fll in the rest- not quite a reboot nor a reimagining- sorta in between.

That's pretty good. It helps explain why Spock wasn't there on the E-B's maiden voyage: Spock didn't want to be there because he might be tempted to intervene and save Jim. Logically, he knows he must not do that, but his human half might manifest itself, especially since he's been spending a lot of time with his emotional Romulan brothers and that could be contageous.

Any chance Spock might be suffering from Bendii Syndrome, the same mind-altering condition that killed his dad? That's kinda what I was hoping for in Nemesis.

That William Shatner will appear in this film as James T. Kirk. I know, I know he has moaned and groaned about not being in it. I think thats all a ploy, especially after the last round of castings. James T. Kirk is just to important and that makes William Shatner as important.

So for the record, I have no proof, no hear-say, no internet rumor. Just my gut says that he will be in it.

That's like opting for creationism over evolution because your "gut" tells you.

Really, it's just like that. Dumbest example ever....

Both of you guys need to knock it off, like, now.

Continued posts about other posters, as opposed to the topic itself, will get you warnings for trolling.

And if a poster bothers you that much, might I suggest you put them on 'ignore'? Then you won't have to read their posts.

If you guys want to continue to pat each other on the back about how wonderful you both are, take it to PM. Otherwise, get back on topic.

thanks.

Same goes for you, Jessop.

Let's get this thread back on topic and dispense with the remarks about other posters.

Thanks.
