More convinced then ever......

That William Shatner will appear in this film as James T. Kirk. I know, I know he has moaned and groaned about not being in it. I think thats all a ploy, especially after the last round of castings. James T. Kirk is just to important and that makes William Shatner as important.

So for the record, I have no proof, no hear-say, no internet rumor. Just my gut says that he will be in it.

Sorry, but you need more than that. The Shat is sitting this one out. Kirk died.

This movie is about young Kirk.

Odd, because I have been absolutely convinced by the overwhelming evidence and statements of virtually everyone invovled that Shatner will not be in the film at all in any way, shape, or form.

Yeah, I feel the same way. Mostly because of the intense security they have on the flick and due to the recent stunt BSG pulled. For those not in the know they killed off one of the main characters on BSG, claimed she was gone for good, even had her auditioning for roles elsewhere and acting ticked off at her character's untimely demise, only to resurrect the character in the final episode of the season-which had been filmed waaaaaaay before the stunt of her auditioning, acting pissed in press junkets, etc began. It was a masterful stroke on the producers of BSG's part, and I expect at least the same level of competence from JJ.

What's Spock going to do, travel to Veridian 3 so its Spock, Picard AND Kirk against Soren... Kirk then survives and lives on through Trek history :-P

lol, yeah, pretty piss poor that 2 capts can't take out one ageing scientist, maybe 3 is the lucky number

I have no idea how they might fit Kirk in there, everything I come up with sounds lame. But like the OP, I feel in my gut, that this is a ruse on JJ and Shat's part. If they do wind up putting him in I hope they make it more beleievable than what you wrote, lol.

I remember reading a post around here back when The Future Of Trek was the only place to talk about Trek IX that was some kind of plot synopsis of the movie....

POSSIBLE SPOILER...

...that indicated that Kirks body is stolen from the grave where Picard left him, by Romulan's and by using some kind of just found tecnology manage to revive him.
At which point Old Spock shows up and rescues Kirk who turns out to not only have been brought back to life but has been revived in his younger form.

Perhaps They ARE planning to bring Old & Young Kirk together in the movie and that's the very reason that They are being sooo tightlipped about the whole thing.

Somebody should try to keep track of Shatners movements over the next few months, maybe They are gonna sneak him in for filming some day.

Sounds kinda far-fetched to me but ya never know. ;)

that's from Shatners own book The Return. In the return Romulans and the Borg kidnaps his body and with the help of borg technology revives him.

...similar....but not the same....

The twist is the part where it's Young Kirk that Spock finds.

This is sounding more and more like a conspiracy theory all the time. I'm waiting to hear how the Free Masons are funding the film...

As good a job as they're doing keeping leaks at a minimum, I don't think there's any way they'd be keeping Shatner's involvement in the movie a secret for that long. I think hopes for him to be at this stage is more wishful thinking than anything. If they do manage to pull it off somehow, I bet the CIA or FBI will be begging them for tips!

Well, the BSG stuff didn't leak until AICN posted the spoiler a few days before the episode aired, so maybe the CIA needs to go call Ron Moore.

I actually wouldn't mind if Shatner does have a brief--let me stress it, brief--cameo at the very end of the movie like Nimoy did in Star Trek III. The movie is seeming more and more like "It's your life, James T. Kirk!" anyway from what news has been released so far...

My ideal version of the story would be if Old Spock goes back, saves young Kirk, tells young Spock who he is, about Veridian 3, and then dies in the past. Let the movie end with young Spock and Kirk going off on their collective adventures and Spock with foreknowledge of Kirk's death. Let the audience and future movies fll in the rest- not quite a reboot nor a reimagining- sorta in between.

Tell me about it.
Last year I was in a debate with Cary L. Brown (whom I haven't seen in a while) in which he claimed that the 'S.S. Conestoga ('Terra Nova' - ENT) was indeed the original design for the ENT Enterprise, but that TPTB tried to cover that up once they decided to use the 'Akiraprise' instead...

I think if young kirk met the fat, grey, stuttering, bloated old version of himself he'd probably commit suicide. Best to keep Shatner out of it.

Course that might explain why he died in Generations. If he saw his older self in that state once he got close to that age he probably tied himself to the bridge before it collapsed.
