Money spent on Star Trek when you shouldnt have

Come on.

We've all got a story to tell here. We all like to spend money on Star Trek, and often we really shouldnt have done it. Whats the most you've spent on Star Trek? Whats your craziest purchase? I'm sure someone in here bought stuff out of the Trek auctions?

Have you ever got into trouble for spending money on Star Trek? Have you had to make sacrifices?

As a 14 year old youth, my mum went away for the weekend, and left me £15 for food and such (it was 1993 - £15 went a fairly long way for food). I promptly went out and blew £14.99 on TNG Season 6 Relics/Man of the People and ate toast for the remainder of the weekend. I didnt even have enough money for bus fare. I walked 1 hour into town and 1 hour home again. In the rain.

Ah, good times... :D

^You're frakkin' crazy. I would never walk that far for DVDs. I'm a Trek geek, but I don't buy "stuff." I do buy novels and I own TNG seasons 3-7. That's about it.

That's a lot for one tape - they should have been £9.99 back then

^ I remember it like it was yesterday. Our Price Video was the name of the shop. It was brand spanking new, it was only out that week if I recall. :D

I spent $80 on TNG Season 1 when it first came out...it was much cheaper at BJ's, a wholesale club store, and I was lucky to have found it for that cheap, but that's the only Star Trek TV show DVD set I've ever bought. And it put a huge dent in my wallet at the time.

Dominion Wars. Away Team.

The TOS communicator from ST: The Experience. The sound is NOTHING like the show.

Back in my younger years, I felt I had to have everything with the Star Trek logo on it. Mugs, action figures, weapons, models, books, magazines, comics, candy, stickers, t-shirts, towels...yes, I was a MAJOR geek for many years.

Nothing really stands out as the ONE wrong purchase, but a lot of that stuff I just didn't need. And it's mostly gone now. :(

Doesn't excuse the fact that you paid £7.50 for Man of the People. ;)

I bought the DVD sets for TNG, DS9, and VOY, all 21 seasons as they came out at $100 a pop. Now, I think we've got our money'w worth out of them and will continue to. My wife and I are both huge fans, and we'll typically watch a couple of episodes per night. Still, we really couldn't afford that much on what we were making.

Should of gone to WHSmiths! I remember clearly intending to get the two tapes for Chain Of Command, but because they were on offer for £7.99 down from £9.99 (whilst still in the charts) I got a third tape as well and I got Rascals & A Fistful Of Datas.

Guilty! Guilty! GUILTY! Let's just say...all four seasons of Enterprise. And other Enterprise paraphenalia, plus other Trek books now and then. Yeah, way too much money. Back in 1988 my husband had already gotten 1/2 of the original trek, one ep per tape on VHS (big bucks back then), so for our wedding present, I gave him the remainder of the tapes, one episode on each tape.

I paid $80 CDN for the hardcover Encyclopedia (2nd edition) only to find the 2a edition on sale (in softcover) a few months later for $10. That was a mighty disappointment.

I was another one of the suckers who paid full price for "Away Team." I think I've played it once.

The only crazy purchase on Trek( speaking only for myself here.)that I can think of is spending it on Abrams' movie.

Legacy. NO one should've spent money on that.
Ouch. I just did!

Looking back, probably the thousands I spent for Trek on VHS. A coke addiction might have been cheaper...

Sadly, I spent far too much on the Columbia House video library of Star Trek. If only I had known the internet and DVDs were coming...

Action figures.

I'm not buying any more as I have several boxes of Trek figures and SW figures that I don't display. I'm very compulsive about collecting and if I let it action figures would be my weakness.

Movie tickets for ST: Nemesis...waste of money indeed.

Otherwise, happy to have purchased model kits, DVDs, VHS, CDs, books, etc.
