Mondegreens

Okay, we all know what mondegreens are, right? Do you have any particular ones that are unique or at least unusual? Let's eliminate the ones everybody's heard of -- “There's a bathroom on the right,” “’Scuse me while I kiss this guy,” “I'm not talkin’ ’bout the linen,” and so on.

For example, Elvis Presley's “Return to Sender” I used to hear as “Return to Hilda.” And the song “Tonight” from West Side Story -- honestly, for years I thought the line “Today, the world was just an address” was “Today, the world was just a mattress.”

Got any good ones?

"You're so lame, you probably think this song is about you. You're so laaaaaame!"

And of course, Beck's, "I'm a lizard-baby, so why don't you kill me," was very popular when I was in 6th grade.

I always hear Mick Jagger sing "I can suck a duck" whenever I hear Beast of Burden. I think the line is really "I can suck it up" but I'm not sure about that.

I'm hot buttered, take it from me. I've got a fever of 103.

Take my hand, we'll make a nice sweater, oh-oh we're livin' on a prayer.

How do you catch a clown and pin him down? Oh, how do you solve a problem like Maria?

First time I heard Steve Perry's "Oh Sherry" ("But you should have been gone"), I thought "Bullets in a big gun."

Please don't consider me a Nil Diamond fan....brrr..
But every time I hear 'Forever in blue jeans' it becomes "The reverend blue jeans".;):eek:Some cool preacher man,no doubt.

"Baking Carrot Biscuits" (Taking Care of Business)
"Thirty Thieves and the Thunder Chief" (Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap)

and of course, the Go-Gos' smash hit, "Alex the Seal" (Our Lips Are Sealed) :guffaw:

Sting - Fields of Gold: I thought the line "among the fields of barley" was "among the fields of holly" for the longest time. The song suddenly made a whole lot more sense when I realized it was barley. (Since holly isn't gold, and it would be really prickly and not at all romantic to lie in a field of holly anyway.)

Scorpions From "There's no-one like you" - "Girl, it's been a long time that we've been apart, much to long for a man who eats out". LOL, should be "who needs love"

From Steppenwolf's “Born to be Wild”:
The line “Fire all of your guns at once and explode into space,” I always used to think was “Buy all of the guns and watch them explode into space.”

And here's how I first heard Bob Dylan's “Tangled Up in Blue”:

Early one morning the sun was shinin’
I was layin’ in bed
Wonderin’ if she'd changed that oil,
If her hair was still red.

Women -- they just never know how to take care of a car!

...

One of my nephews once thought the line "looking for adventure" was "looking for a badger."
