[Too Much Fun]

"How I Met Your Mother" hit some pretty big lows last season, but I haven't given up on it yet. I'll watch it for a little while at least. Having just watched the whole series in order to prepare for the upcoming season, the greatness it's capable of is fresh in my memory.

I'm a little shocked that so many people are going to watch The Event. On the other hand I guess it is the most "genre" show that night...

I predict the most watched show on Monday night will be Dancing with the Stars.

Well no, shit. TrekBBS is an example of biased sampling. Of course we're going to veer towards genre stuff and away from the stuff that sci fi fans despise. In other news, water is wet.

This poll is a particularly good example of biased sampling because of (what will be) the huge disparity between the Dancing with the Stars ratings and the professed plans of the bbs audience. It is a vivid reminder of how biased sampling can produce enormous errors, something people do in fact usually forget.

My guess is that The Event will open with high ratings (I predict nothing about subsequent ratings. My gut says precipitous fall, but my gut reliably produces only shit.) That won't put this bbs so far out of line with the "normal" population. I strongly suspect the dancing show will actually score high with the whole bbs but there's no way to ever know. There is no special reason to think SF fans are any more immune to the charms of reality programming, even if this particular bbs seems to dilike comedy.

It maybe ... but I would never watch the Australian version of that show. Here too, it rates through the roof.
