Moffat - "you can imagine how much I hate them"

Steven has tweeted about his rant...lol...

Finally heard my own rant. Grumpy sod. And what a boring, inflection free voice! It's like been told off by the shipping forecast.

Clearly you have issues with Moffat, take them up with someone who cares.

That doesn't make sense since you're only the last in a line of people who have shot down every misconception s/he has posted so far.
Just getting cranky with the complaint about the Today show piece. Moffat has no control over the Today show, but his complaint sure looks like he expects as much. Maybe he wants Moffat to complain equally about the Today show, unlikely he would as they didn't reveal the entire plot of the episodes they saw. He may not be happy with them either, but they didn't get invited to see whole episodes-get asked not to reveal them- then go out and reveal everything. It sounds like StCoop wants something I don't see the point of.

In any case, this is a darn good way to make sure these press screenings are restricted to members of the press only in the future (at least they know how to behave).

As for RTD, I seem to recall he had some harsh words about critical fans during his tenure. Something about suggesting his writers not read comments on certain message boards? And isn't he the one who started the whole 'Ming-Mong' thing?

I feel for him, they go to a lot of work to surprise folks. Also, there are plenty of fans who'd like to enjoy the show without having the details or spoilers thrown about willy nilly.

And yet he allows that Today Show report which gives away multiple Spoilers without any warning.
I didn't look at the Today Show spoilers, but, surely, there's no comparison with them, and posting every plot point for the Series opening two parter

I can't say I'm that bothered about spoilers. If a story isn't worth watching more than once for itself, its standing depends on the surprise factor alone. That doesn't cut it for me. However, I can understand that others hate spoilers, so they need to keep away from places where they're likely to see them.

Unfortunately no matter what Moffat says does he'll be wrong in certain posters' eyes, in the same way plenty of people will always have a downer on RTD no matter what.

Personally I'm getting tired of having to avoid spoilers, even if you avoid spoiler threads (and often even if you accidentally hover over them often you get inadvertently spoiled) people still drop things into other threads that mean you can often work the spoilers out anyway.

I can understand why Moffat's angry, but I also think he, like RTD before him, has to accept some of the blame. The producers constanly market the show through the media, constantly drop spoilers themsevles. See Dalek Sec on the cover of the Radio Times, or the fact that someone was going to die from the covers of DWM. Then you even have people within the production team leaking stuff. I'm still annoyed that the Pandorica was somewhat spoiled by the artist posting pics of the Pandorica with
11 inside it
.

And I don't get why people even like spoilers, you see it all the time in the UK with regards the soaps, every flipping plot point is known well in advance. I'm amazed anyone actually needs to watch the shows! Thankfully Who isn't that bad...yet!

Sure, you want a story to be rewatchable, and if you click a spoiler box, you're to blame (or read too far into a thread marked spoilers). But, your first time watching something, is different than repeated viewings. And sometimes, you get clowns who deliberately spit something major out, without any warning. I like Spoilers put out by the artist, that are meant to fuel your theorizing, such as "River will return in episode X" or "someone will die", but, me personally, I want to wait to find out in the episode why River returned, or who is going to die

I like the way some big cinema companies do trailers with footage that isn't in the actual movie. They should do that with any programme where the broadcasters want to do "next week on..." trailers, not just DW.

I think StCoop's taking it personally 'cause he likes to be up on the latest spoilers and share them with the community to prove how well informed he is about the show.

I guess it is difficult to trail something without potentially giving stuff away, but it isn't impossible (and actually most of the Who trails are v good compared to a lot of the US next time trailers I've seen).

Trouble is I get slightly annoyed when stuff in the trailer isn't in the final film

Heh, yea, in the LOST episode where Sawyer shoots the boar, the trailer for it showed Sawyer and Jack at each other's throats and made it appear Sawyer was shooting Jack

I hope all those people who would rip in to RTD for making even the most mildly negative comment about any section of Fandom will show the same response here.

Don't worry, I'm sure you got this adequately covered.

Anyway, if people want spoilers, I think that's fine for them. What I hate is when people reveal spoilers carelessly. I would have loved to have been surprised that Davros was reappearing two years ago, but it was impossible because people would just post in threads "well, since Davros is the bad guy in the final episodes of the season..." Not all spoilers ruin a plot, but sometimes the surprise is part of the appeal.

I wonder why productions like Doctor Who don't engage in disinformation to counter spoilers and keep fans guessing. It shouldn't be hard to do, just lie every now and then in an interview, or stage a few "behind-the-scenes" photos intended to be leaked.

"I think the fans will really get behind the new paisley Dalek," Moffat enthused in a recent interview. "Matt thinks they're cool!"

My guess time, budget, and the fact that, if both are released, you'll still have been spoiled.

For example, if you had read two spoilers about The Impossible Astronaut:
One said someone in a spacesuit killed the Doctor, the other said River killed Rory. You would still know the Doctor was going to die when you saw him walk out to the spacesuit at the beginning of the episode.

To be fair about that, at least it was early enough in the episode that it didn't ruin a major twist, just the setup. I was spoiled by pictures on the BBC Website of the Doctor regenerating.

Yeah I wonder this as well. I know when either Life on Mars or Ashes to Ashes was finishing they talked about filling two endings to throw people off but it was BS because apparently they could only afford to film one!

Of course sometimes people just get spoilers plain wrong, I still recall that Harriet Jones was supposed to be inside the Supreme Dalek, and I'm still glad that the identity of who knocked four times was kept really secure.

There's always been a difference between Spoilers & Teasers.

Teasers whet the appetite with things that don't ruin story arcs, character beats, or surprise reveals.

Spoilers, do just that, spoil the twists.

For example: I was glad to know in advance that River Song would be back for Season 6, but I'm not eager to know how it all fits together until I'm watching the episodes.

Plus, to be honest, if they wanted to do something crazy and bring back Captain Jack, I'd rather that just occur during the episode than know in advance. All the more enthralling.

I don't disagree with his frustration but on the other hand, last week before "The Day Of The Moon" premiered there was a Doctor behind the scenes thing that basically gave away some major plot points of that episode. I kind of wish I hadn't seen that special but the damage was already done.
