Moffat - "you can imagine how much I hate them"

Doctor Who chief writer Steven Moffat has attacked fans of the show who reveal crucial plot lines ahead of transmission.

"You can imagine how much I hate them," he told BBC Radio 5 live. "It's only fans who do this, or they call themselves fans.

"I wish they could go and be fans of something else."

Before the current series began, a fan posted the entire plot of the first two episodes on an internet forum.

Can't say I blame him for being angry. Theres always some jerk who has to make the rest of us look bad.

I hope all those people who would rip in to RTD for making even the most mildly negative comment about any section of Fandom will show the same response here.

And Mr Moffat, no matter how you might feel about people (whose method of enjoying the series is none of your business anyway) you don't make comments in that language in public. It's totally unprofessional.

I feel for him, they go to a lot of work to surprise folks. Also, there are plenty of fans who'd like to enjoy the show without having the details or spoilers thrown about willy nilly. Especially, when it is done by folks given the chance to preview things ahead of time. Their being trusted to have the sense to review without spoiling the show for those waiting to enjoy it.

Please, the amount of flack he has to take like any showrunner gives him the right to voice his opinion, free speech dude. Only uptight people would be offended by such comments, hes not exactly wrong.

There's voicing your opinion and how you voice your opinion. I've no doubt RTD felt the same frustrations but you never saw him making that sort of outburst.

And yet he allows that Today Show report which gives away multiple Spoilers without any warning.

I truly feel for him, i have a fair idea those few who(Oh the pun), were intent on ruining the surprise for everybody else might have actually ruined it for everybody as i can see future show promos being press only now.

Real shame that the majority of fans at the promo have to suffer in the same barrel now as the few rotton ones.

Moffat's own comment on his rant is "grumpy old sod", so I guess he may ever so slightly feel that it wasn't the best move. ;)

As with the bad review, the more noise you make about something you don't like, the more people will go an look it up. So someone posted spoilers - which were presumably only seen by people who wanted to see spoilers. And?

As someone who enjoys reading spoilers I still understand why he would be upset as the showrunner. He's trying to protect the show for those who don't want to be spoiled and have the impact of surprise. I totally get that. I don't think his comments were unprofessional at all. I would have said the same thing about RTD had he stated the comments as I'm partial to them both.

Actually RTD did, on many occasions, complain about people letting spoilers out. He was annoyed how the papers would break storylines ahead of broadcast. Steven Moffat may have been strenuous in his complaint about it but RTD most definitely did complain about it.

I know he did but he never publicly spoke of fans in that manner, which didn't stop people abusing him for any slight complaint he did make.

He didn't allow anything, he doesn't edit the Today Show.

So they just turned up on their doorstep and demanded to be allowed to shoot whatever they want.

Right.
They're press folks doing an infotainment piece about the show. They got a press packet and were probably asked to avoid things but Moffat and the BBC have no control over what NBC produces.

Clearly you have issues with Moffat, take them up with someone who cares.
