Moffat: The Whole Rotten Saga

On balance I prefer the RTD era over the Moffat era, I think Moffat had stronger episodes such as "Blink" and "The Doctor Dances" two-parter before he became show runner. I don't know but the RTD felt more fun than the Moffat era. Looking at the list of episodes most of my favourite episodes from the RTD era where written by Moffat, most of my favourite episodes of the Moffat era where written by someone other than Moffat.

Clara should have left in "Last Christmas" it was a nice end way for her to leave the show.

Russel's "EMOTIONS AND FEEEEELS!!" only provoked a response from blubbering fangirls. His finales are practically unwatchable now.

Clara should have left after "The Snowmen"

I, a 55-year-old man, am also a blubbering fangirl. I liked Amy and Rory, I liked Clara, but their departures didn't compare to Donna Noble's. The feels are real.

And let's look at the final lines of every NuWho Doctor so far, shall we?

9: Rose, before I go, I just want to tell you, you were fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. And do you know what? So was I.
10: I don't want to go!
11: I will not forget one line of this. Not one day. I swear. I will always remember when the Doctor was me.
12: Laugh hard, run fast, be kind. Doctor, I let you go.

Interesting how the one that makes the Doctor look like an arrogant, vain asshole because he didn't want to change his pretty face is the one that everyone says elicits all of their "feeeeeeels". The same Doctor who, in his first episode, had to remind Rose and Harriet Jones that he was "literally the same man".

Oh, Donna. The greatest of all the companions. Sigh.

Oh, no. It's almost like Ten had feelings... and didn't want to die... How absolutely assholish of himself.

Of course, 11, he didn't want to go to Trenzelore, he tried his best to run away from his death...
And, then, there's 12, who had to spend a whole episode in order to be convinced to regenerate.

It's almost like they are all vain... like they are all the same man...

Huh. I guess it pays to look at the broader context rather than a line.

Ten was the only one who saw regeneration as death.

Which wasn't over just not wanting to change, he actually wanted to die.

I think you're missing the point. The Tenth Doctor was vain and in love with himself. That's why he said it.
Which isn't what the Doctor is about and shouldn't be celebrated. I hate that. I hate how for the next umpteenth years all we'll hear about is Tennant. I hate how he'll forever overshadow all future Doctors.
There's better ones out there.

You know that how? Because he's the first that articulate that, doesn't mean he's the only one that felt that way.

Who are you talking to? Like, I don't constantly here that the 10th is the greatest and there is no other. Sometimes I hear the 11th is the best. Or the 4th. I personally love the 6th, for various strange reasons.

And besides: it's just an opinion.

What, did David Tennant drink your milkshake or something?

You mean like Tom Baker cast a shadow over all future Doctor's?

One also has to remember that when the Doctor said "He didn't want to go", he was on his last regeneration.

That's the beauty of Doctor Who. Everyone has their Doctor. For a lot of years mine was Tom Baker before moving to Tenant. I know people here who prefer Colin Baker. And Matt Smith. And Peter Capaldi. I don't have to like their Doctor. They don't have to like mine. I'm sure fans of Peter Davison or Colin Baker or Jon Pertwee didn't like being overshadowed by Tom Baker. That's just how Doctor Who works. Love your Doctor. That's YOUR Doctor. And no one can take him (ETA: or her, new times) away from you.

And just before 9 regenerates; he has to remind Rose that he's not going to be himself anymore.

Yeah, its a strange, beautiful thing about the Doctor. When he changes, he does change personality, but he's still himself. Beautifully odd.

Yeah, I don't get why someone is upset that THEIR Doctor isn't beloved by everyone else, or if someone they don't like is popular. Like, who the fuck cares? As you said, love your Doctor.

The end of Donna's time with the Doctor is nearly the saddest, second only to the death of Adric in Earthshock. (That broken star in the silent credits of Earthshock gets me every time.)
Wiping her memory, thus undoing all of her character development, essentially shitting on her.
Wiping her memory is what made it tragic. She became a better person throughout the season, and it was basically the death of the character she had become.

The great thing about Doctor Who is that there really hasn't been a bad Doctor. There's been bad writing, but every actor who's played the Doctor has been absolutely amazing, usually in their own particular way. I used to hate Colin Baker when I was a kid, and even he's grown on me over the years.
