Resistance is futile.

The starter kits or just getting the core rulebook seems more economical...

Try as I might, I just can't wrap my head around the price tag. Cost is the main thing that has prevented me from developing an interest in tabletop gaming of this type.

Arguably, this is a product aimed at collectors, and at some point down the road you'll be able to get it for 25% MSRP--if not more. However, I am straining to see the value here. Books, dozen and a half (nice) figures, specialty dice and tokens: at $500 it seems meager, especially when compared to some games that have come out in the last five years, like Gloomhaven, Kingdom Death Monster, Conan, or Mechs vs. Minions. Even with packaging, I don't see more than $300 MSRP (which no gamer would pay).

Resistance in financial.

That's what I was thinking seeing the box. It is way too expensive. There is no way I will pay $25 for a few dice or $50 for some miniatures (and there are 3 sets of dice and 4 sets of miniatures). I don't know what Modiphius was thinking. It's hard to imagine this game will be a success if you have to pay a fortune to start gaming. And the Deck Tiles and Gamemaster Screen are expensive too. Only the Core Rules are within normal price range. Therefore I will stick to the latter one however I regret it, because I really wanted to support this new chance for Star Trek roleplaying.

One of the online gamestores, Miniature Market, put a bunch of the items on pre-order. It looks like the corebook will come $40, the miniature packs around $35. Those prices are the store's normal discount. That's not bad, but I am reminded that for the cost the core an two factions I would probably also get the tiles, screens and dice with a typical board game.
