Moana

I can't remember seeing a discussion about Moana so if there was, sorry.

I LOVED IT! The story was beautiful. I teared up many times. The animation was stunning! Moana was an awesome female lead. Hearing Dwayne Johnson sing was fun. The songs were lovely. I predict a great career ahead for Auli'i Cravalho.

For me, it surpassed Frozen.

I enjoyed it a lot. I thought the beginning was a bit rocky, specifically the conflict between Moana and her father. Its a type of conflict we've seen many times before (hero wants to do something despite tradition not allowing it, so has problems with their parents), and I don't think this movie did it in a unique or particularly interesting way. But, once she's off the island I really enjoyed the story. There were some great visuals (my jaw dropped a few times), some great characters (Moana and Maui specifically) and mostly amazing music.

I haven't been this impressed by a (non Pixar) Disney movie in a long time. I liked Frozen, and Wreck-It-Ralph was great, but I'd talk about Moana in the same way I mention Aladdin, The Lion King, Hercules, etc as a legit Disney classic (maybe not quite as good or iconic as the ones I specifically mentioned, but definitely in the same category of Disney movies as those). It feels like it has the same kind of "Disney Magic" (I can't think of another way to put it) as the older films.

No they just stole your soul instead.

Lovely film. I loved how there wasn't a standard arch villain, rather a malevolent force created by interference with nature. A nice evironmental message played without hystrionics or agenda.

Thoroughly enoyed all of the songs too. In fact the only thing that really disapponted me was I wanted more songs. It certainly doesn't help that my job takes me into a Disney Store every shift, but even without their looping of the Moana soundtrack, all of the songs have stuck with me.

By far and away Disney's best since the mid-ninties and I need a Hei-Hei to join Sadness, BB8 and Buzz on the bookshelf.

Hugo - is also SHINY... send your armies, they'll never be enough

Most I've read about the movie has been about the main character's name change due to some legal issues and italian porn star. First main character of a Disney movie since who knows when to have significantly different name around the world.

Vaiana is just not same as Moana.

Two of the biggest gut-busting scenes for me involved Hei-Hei: the one where Moana finds him hidden on her boat, and he continuously screams. The one where the ocean shuts him up inside the boat. Poor Hei-Hei. He'll never learn.

I wish Pua the pig had joined their quest.

Anyone make it to the post-credits scene where Tomatoa is still on his back and references Sebastian?
