MMORPG's

With any MMO there's always players that "have no life" and have a charater that will out-class any "normal" players, thus making it no fun

My main problem with MMOs is my long ingrained disinclination to interact with people I don't know. Because people are, generally, stupid fuckers.

Only if you want to be the best there is. In that case no life is mandatory; but given that the more popular MMOs have plenty of casual players in addition to the hardcore base it's really not that hard to find a niche.

Are you talking about MMO "twinks"?

As for having a super-developed character, that's really up to the player and his/her gaming habits. It took me 5+ years to have a Level 50 character in City of Heroes. Those higher-developed characters don't intimidate me or make me jealous in any way.
