I was watching The Crossing last night. There you have the non-corporeal alien inhabiting Tucker.. with a huge table of foods laid out before him as he enjoys eating for the first time. And what does he hold up as with amazement asking "have you ever had this?" A slice of white bread.

That was.. weird. It wasn't even toast.

I think that weirdness was the point.

It's such a mundane food for us, but for someone who's never had it, or any food or that matter, it probably would taste extraordinary.

It's a very good episode, using classic Trek story ideas with some enjoyable quirky touches and an excellent pace.

One question I had though was how the Tucker entity managed to exist in the catwalk when the other entities couldn't?

As far as I can remember they tried to get inside Travis before he got to the catwalk, but once Travis got inside, they couldn't manage it because it was too well shielded.

So they might have got inside Tucker before he got to the catwalk. It didn't say anything about the entities not being able to survive in the catwalk inside a person, only that they couldn't survive outside a person.

I never toast my bread unless it is stale. I keep whole wheat to serve around guests and white to eat behind closed curtains when no one is around.
