MLS 2008 - where it's soccer, not football!

And he looks set to be farmed down to a lower-division affiliate when he gets there, for a while at least.

Oh, and D.C. United pulled off a craxy win at Toyota park against the Fire - but Toronto FC got smacked around by the Houston Dynamo 3-0 down at Robertson Stadium.

1 for 2 will have to do... this time.

Josmer Altidore is sold to Villareal for $10 million.

Anything that keeps the Metrostars ineffectual and uncompetetive is a plus in my book. And I think it will really help Altidore's development into a solid US national team player (even more important).

Aside from that, I have to say that I have been very impressed this season with Craig Sutton's play for Toronto FC. I was not a fan last year and felt that headed into this season GK was the team's weakest aspect. That guy has really stepped up and controls the box very well. Not perfect by any stretch, but he's been a very pleasant surprise.

And hey, Nerroth, how about that Emilio? It's like suddenly he flicked a switch and is in game shape and actually looks interested. If Gallardo and Fred can get Emilio on the same page as their service... Emilio could finish the year very strong. Three more home games to try and move up in the table before the monthlong break for Superliga....

It's Greg Sutton, Ruaidhrí!

And yes, Emilio did well - there was a poster over at the DC United board on BigSoccer, who said that Tommy must have told him at half time "Luciano, you are Brazilian"!

Actually, I'm hoping that the Canadian MNT does well this weekend, too - their first leg of the WC qualifying round, against St. Vincent and the Grenadines, is on Sunday.

Getting farmed out to a lower division club with be good for Josie. He will actually get laying time against a similar style of play that he would see playing for Villareal. Lets hope he can become the first American football star.

Meanwhile the Galaxy offense continues to be amazing, even without Landon Donovan. 28 goals thus far, 8 higher then any other team in MLS.

A great night - Toronto beat Colorado 3-1 at BMO Field, and United beat NYRB 4-1 at RFK!

Very nice to see Rohan Ricketts step up now that he's more fit. He looked like a gamechanging player in that match against Colorado, which is probably better than where his play will settle, but he looks to complement Robert very well. I love the tactic of periodically swapping Ricketts and Robert throughout the game. It left the Rapids constantly having to adapt their defense the entire game.

Canada won the away leg against St. Vincent and the Grenadines 3-0 - a good position to be in going into the awya leg at Stade Saputo.

(I wonder if Ovation is into the Impact, or would consider checking out the CMNT at said Stade?)

ABC are showing an ESPN broadcast now, with United taking on the Galaxy at RFK - and 40 minutes in, we have 2-1 to D.C.!

Plus, the crowd (30k+) looks great, the atmosphere sounds awesome... and I wish I was there - although they have a banner up saying "Shouldn't you be in Austria?"!

Vamos United!

I just loved the comment from the announcer on the Euro final broadcast remarking how United had "schooled" the Galaxy.

Poor Landon getting smacked in the face by Gallardo. Very tasty icing on the cake of the 3 points.

Yay - I finally get to see some CBC coverage of TFC!

However, they are currently down 1-0 at HT to the Whitecaps... oh well.

Oy, I have missed both of their Canadian Cup games, and given the result against Vancouver I'm not unhappy about not seeing that one.

Carver sounded pretty pissed at the effort in the first half, though in the end he blamed himself for putting that lineup out on the pitch.

Now, I;m going to go write down the dates of the other two Cup matches so I don't forget about them.

TFC played to 1-1 at extra time against C.F. Pachuca in the Carlsberg Cup - but lost the resulting penalty shootout 4-3 on pelanties.

The tuzos seem to have a thing about shootouts with MLS clubs, it seems...

...oh well. SuperLiga - and the rest of the NCC - on the way!

Oh maaan....

...some of the lights blew at RFK, interrupting the second half of the opening SuperLiga match against Chivas Guadalajara.

Damn, United need a new stadium!

(Oh - all of the SuperLiga matches can be seen at http://www.superliga2008.com/ if you are interested.)

Rough weekend for both DCU and TFC.

Can't believe Moreno missed a penalty. And this is the second time that RFK stadium has had the lights go out during a United match. The first time it happened they just called the game and KC got a cheap, shortened clean sheet.

Yep - Revs did well, and CF Pachuca did the business at the HDC.

That match between Houston and Chivas tomorrow night will be a hoot, I bet!

Rough weekend for both DCU and TFC.

Even though TFC lost, I am encouraged by the play of Ibrahim. He showed more in 1 half than Cunningham has shown all season.

Completely agreed! I had no idea who he was until they called him "Abdi" and it jogged my memory of an article I read about him a few weeks ago. He gave one of the more dynamic performances from a TFC forward in the season and a half the team has been playing.

He's just so young, lets hope he can be consistent in his hustle and skill. Who knows how much of that was first game adrenaline?
