MLS 2008 - where it's soccer, not football!

Saw my first TFC game on Wed. It was incredible. The experience was like European football all over again!!

Toronto FC win against the Wizards, with 2 goals by Amada Guevara, who was the best player on the park by far for the 90 minutes.

He's a dynamo - sorry, Houston! - and a great addition to TFC this season.

Now, to wait for the kickoff at RFK...

He's a hardcore headcase, and can explode at any moment. Not the type of guy you want to build your team around.

Anyone in America watch the EUROPEAN cup final ???

Also any idea who is going to be in the USA squad to face England ? who do we have to worry about ?

I am pretty sure EVERYONE who follows soccer watched that final. :-) And you should really worry about Donovan for many reasons. 1) He has eight goals and five assists already this year, which is just ridiculous. He is the leader in goals and is tied with David Beckham for lead in assist. 2) He said he is interested in playing in the Premier League, so a good performance at Wembley pretty much gets his a contract. Maybe even with a top team. He is THAT good right now.

Well, he's doing the business for TFC so far - and since the match against D.C. just kicked off, we'll see how he does today.

(This time, I'm wearing the TFC jersey for the first half, and the D.C. one for the second!)

Make that nine goals and six assists. HOOOLLLY COW.

Yeh I have Donovan as the dangerman, been watching him this season at L.A and he might do well in the PL but his age means he will have to move sooner than later if he want to make a impact.

Count him as joining next season, if he plays well at Wembley.

Just watched highlights of LA's latest win and am really surprised by the fitness levels of David Beckham these days, he workingh ard. Also despite it being an open goal, a WONDERFUL goal from 65 yards.

I am really looking forward to ENG vs. USA:techman:

That was Beckham's best game as a Galaxy player, no doubt about it. And he has already had some good ones :-)
So do people in England still think that the United Sates team is a joke, or are they taking this game seriously? Also, why is England traveling all the way to T&T? That's weird...

From what I heard the T&T game is to celebrate 100th year of the football federation in T&T and to sweet talk Jack Walker into supporting our 2018 World Cup bid.

I think more people are taking you seriously this time around but still remember in 2005 I think it was, we beat you 2-1 with a England B side pretty much with two goals from some guy who has not played for us since.

Ye, worse then that I think it was 2-0, and it was in the United States! :-( However, it wasn't our main team either. Kieran Richardson was your scorer I think.

Just checked, it was during a brief summer tour we had and the score was 2-1...

Kieron Richardson got two and Clint Dempsey scored late on for you. Our other match during the tour saw us beat Coloumbia 3-2 with a hat trick from Owen.

Our Record from FA.com shows...

(1950) ENG 0-1 USA
(1953) ENG 6-3 USA
(1959) ENG 8-1 USA
(1964) ENG 10-0 USA
(1985) ENG 5-0 USA
(1993) ENG 0-2 USA
(1994) ENG 2-0 USA
(2005) ENG 2-1 USA

This will be only the 2nd game at home against USA with the 1st one begin at Wembley in 1994

While the league will lilkely be overshadowed this moth by that... other... tournament... taking place this month, there are still some interesting matches to be had.

This week, both TFC and DCU get a crack at the reigning MLS Cup holders, the Houston Dynamo - and while I'm hoping that the Black-and-Red and the Reds can each get their three points, I would not be surprised if the not-quite-so-slumbering-anymore giants of Robertson Stadium prove to be plenty of trouble for their more northerly counterparts...

Oh, and speaking of international friendlies?

Canada put on a good show over in Seattle, though ended up losing 3-2 to Brazil at Qwest Field in the end. Hopefully, they can do the business in their next friendly (against Panama) and go on to roll through their CONCACAF qualifying group for WC 2010!

I was also very pleased with the way Canada played against Brazil. If they keep playing this well, they will qualify for the World Cup 2010.

Set your sites on qualifying for the hex first.

Indeed - since St. Vincent and the Grenadines are perennial CONCACAF powers.

(Says a guy quite aware of the fate he is tempting with such a statement...)

You don't make the hex by beating them. You only make the qualifying groups. And a tie with Panama isn't very inspiring. Although Canada is most certainly an improving team, I will agree with that much.

And in MLS news, first delayed game that I remember last night in DC...

I just heard Manchester United is scouting Brek Shea. An 18 year old American CB Norwegian Descent who plays for FC Dallas. Now I don't know much about him other than he is tall but United is knocking on the door this kid must have good potential.
