Twilight even said that unicorns are only born with enough power for their talent. Twilight and Sunset are meant to be the only two born with that kind of power because their talent *is* magic. And it had to be nutured and grew over time, Twilight from overstudying and Sunset from reading from advanced texts before she was ready (according to the comics), both were given powerful spells to master.

Starlight, we're supposed to believe she has more power than Twilight or Cadance, Alicorns, without any training, in a way that is so carefree as to not need to think about it? that shouldn't even be bodily possible for a unicorn.

That's a massive plot point that somebody really needs to address soon.
Exactly. We know that Twilight and Sunset are very powerful, but they were students of Celestia, and tutored in ways to use that power. Starlight's power seems almost unlimited. I mean, she helped Alicorns hold the crystal heart together. What is this power, where is it from, how did she use it? Hell, how did she get it in the first place? I'm not going to say it's necessarily bad, but if she's connected to someone very powerful in the past, I'd like to know it.

Remember when Twilight used the water tower and wind to lull the Ursa Minor back to sleep in Boast Busters? Ponyville nearly lost its collective *yay* at something so powerful. Starlight Glimmer changes Big Mac's physiology on an off-hand comment, and the best Applejack shows is annoyance. Really? Again, I like Starlight, and I think there's a good pony in there trying to assert herself, but the magic thing is really bugging me. They've overpowered her and failed to explain why. I think we need to know, and I hope we find out this season.

Oooh, I think AJ was holding back. "I wanna beat the *yay* outta you, but I know what ya can do. Otherwise my hooves would be meetin' your plot!!"
My suspicion is that Starlight has studied branches of magic that Twilight was wise to avoid. We've seen in an alternate universe what a Twilight corrupted can do...

I do think Starlight is trying to change, but she does get an awful lot of freedom considering her original stated goals.

Yeah, that was a rather dark concept they had in there. Whether or not they meant it, it clearly came across as "my best friend is gone, I'm all alone, and let's do this suicidal trick I know I can't do."
So, so far, the message from the Starflight-centric episodes has been: (A) If you friend runs off like a prick and leaves yu alone, it's okay to take that out on innocents and bend them to your will or (B) If you makes friends with someone that runs off like a prick try to get yourself killed in a fit of sadness.

Yeah, she's not the poster child for emotional stability or rational problem solving. I know, I know, they're not perfect either. But Starlight was a cult leader, those people are always a little 'wrong' up there.

What interests me, um interestingly, is how I've come to really like Starlight Glimmer. Oh, she can't replace any of the Mane Six for me, but I do actually like her. She seems far more flawed and a bit more nuanced than previous villains. She's clearly strong in magic, which does irk me somewhat because I remember when Twilight doing these things was considered amazing and incredible, and Starlight's doing them is kind of passed over, and I would like them to address it. In fact, that may be the only lingering issue I have with Starlight which is, as @Chemahkuu points out, where the hell is this font of magic coming from?
Midichlorians. Starlight has the highest midichlorian count since Princess Celestia

Could be, and if so I hope they explore that avenue. I want to know why she's so powerful. I thought they would have explained that early on in this season, but so far it's been quiet on that front.

Yeah, not the most uplifting of messages this one.

Agreed. Like I said, she's clearly trying to be a good pony, but she's going to filter "good" through that lens of hers, and it's probably just a touch cracked.

*whacks @SeerSGB with a trout*

I really think she's just studied in areas Twilight was wise to leave alone. Sunset would've given her a run for her money, I suspect.
I have to wonder if there will be a moment this season where Starlight really has to deal with making a final choice over which path she will ultimately follow. And if she nearly makes a bad decision, will Trixie be the one to pull her back?
In Friendship Games, we saw a Twilight that went down a path where knowledge was the only thing. And the thing that saved her wasn't Sunset.. it was Spike. Without Spike, Sunset would've lost to a corrupted Twilight.

You make a good point, and I wonder the same. We see that Starlight really is trying, but her regular personality is still there, because she hasn't been rainbow blasted. There could be a light side/dark side path choice coming up. If so, that will make this season particularly interesting, and could either make it or break it.

What if Celestia and Twilight come to odds with each other and Starlight has to choose? I could see Celestia thinking there's only one way to solve a particular problem, Twilight thinks there are other possibilities. Given her abilities, Celestia tries to turn Starlight against her teacher "for the good of Equestria."

Ooh, that's some Star Wars level storytelling. :D

Trollestia strikes again?

Well, now I'm envisioning the finale battle from Cutie Remark re-scored to "Duel Of The Fates"
I don't have that, but I have this, and it is BADASS.
