MLB World Series 2018: Eh. Dodgers/Boston. Eh.

Though I'm not sure we have enough to bargain with to beat any team out of the better trade targets.

They really, really don't. Their best prospects after Alzolay--who is a huge question mark, considering he has two pitches and a worrisome injury history--are in high-A ball, which means they're basically the equivalent of playing Bozo Buckets at this point. For all the good that the Epstein / Hoyer regime has done, they have not drafted particularly well, and the farm is essentially barren. It's been reported by multiple teams' beat writers that any negotiations with the Cubs have been starting with players on the 25-man roster, which Epstein has said is a non-starter.

I have to say I'm pretty happy with Machado going to the Dodgers...even if it seems inevitable now that we'll get a Dodgers/Astros rematch in the World Series (assuming Dodgers pitching can stay healthy).

The A's trade of Jeurys Familia, which strengthens their already world-class bullpen, and they gave up very, very little. The Mets have such intelligent management.
That trade seems to be an interesting acknowledgement that the A' won't be able to do much in the starting pitching market, so they are just going to strengthen the back end and hope their rotation can keep things under control for at least five innings.

When your pitchers let you down, have fun with this:

The A's found another way to win, coming back from a 10-2 deficit to win 13-10. Screw the wildcard, try to catch Houston.
We HAVE to get some rotation help. Our bullpen could beat anybody, but we have to get some folks who can pitch for 6 solid before turning the keys over to Trivino, Familia, and Treinan.

Oh, gods, what did they do this time?

Cespedes needs surgery for bilateral heel calcification. The condition has bothered him for years, but he underwent an MRI to assess its severity only the other day. I suppose it’s possible he just never mentioned it, but I’m wondering how these sorts of things always seem to happen to the Mets. Do none of their orthopedists actually examine their patients?

Rotation and maybe another bat. My worry is this won't be sustainable in September but adding more depth would be a good thing.

I'm not worried about offense. They have more than enough of that, and plenty of pinch-hitting/positional depth. Pitching, pitching, pitching is what they need. I would have loved to see them snag Eovaldi.

The way their starting pitchers tend to drop like flies, I'm surprised the Mets even HAVE a medical staff.

You’d think Callaway would watch out for his starters, but given the number and types of screwups he’s been guilty of this season, it’s not surprising the Mets injury woes have continued.
