Khris Davis is unreal. A's win again and gain another game on the Astros.
Thank Rollie Finger's Holy Mustache for that bullpen, and our never-say-die attitude.
I saw a nice analysis of the A's strategy
1) Use Lawyerball to burn through opening starters, driving up their pitching count so that they are tired/pulled by the fifth/sixth inning.
2) Feast on crappy long relievers (the weakest point of most teams) and score runs in the 6th,7th,and 8th.
3) Clamp down with the bullpen.
Rinse and repeat.

It sure would be nice if our starting pitchers didn't suck, as the better teams we may face in the playoffs won't be so susceptible to that strategy.

Those steps were used by the 2015 & 2016 Cubs to great success. I don't know what happened since then.

Damn! Another decent starter off the market, and after today's latest showing by Walkwood (6 more BB's), the Cubs need a starter as bad as anything.

Even if Darvish ever makes it back, there's no telling if he'll be good, Chatwood needs to be shot into the Sun, Hendricks has been iffy at best, Montgomery has been OK as a starter and Lester has been pretty good outside of his last start (or 2 starts ago).

I just hope he replaces Chatwood in the rotation and not Montgomery, as much as the bullpen could use Montgomery.

My guess is Chatwood goes to the bullpen as a garbage-time reliever, and Smyly should be activated soon, which should help the bullpen out a lot. I'm sad that Butler went to Texas in the Hamels trade, though.

Hopefully Darvish comes back soon and gets back to being, well, Darvish.

I also wouldn't be shocked to see the team go to a 6-man rotation in August / September. Maddon and Epstein have both talked about giving Lester some extra rest.

Ryan Pressly to the Astros for a bunch of garbage, Mike Moustakas to the Brewers for a pair of lottery tickets.

Milwaukee's really going for it this season.

Sean Newcomb almost threw a no-hitter today, but in an even bigger story that’s started to develop within the last hour, he also pulled a Josh Hader several years ago.
