Just when you thought Joe West couldn't go farther off the deep end....Linky
"I don't believe in my heart that all these deaths have been from the coronavirus." Joe, how STUPID can you possibly get?![]()
The Braves can just switch to the Atlanta Brave, chuck the tomahawk symbol and keep the same color schemes.
Jason
Won't have to get rid of it if you change the name to the Tomahawks. They wouldn't even have to change the uniforms except to change "Braves" to "Atlanta."I attended a game in Atlanta a few years ago and the tomahawk chop was engrained in those fans. There is music, lighting change, the whole bit. Everyone in the stadium does it. Good luck trying to convince them they need to get rid of it.
I watched a game in which Joe West invoked the "infield fly rule" on a short fly ball that the shortstop had to sprint about 120 feet into left field to catch and then Joe just stood there with his arms folded, and stonewalled the screaming manager to whom, like everyone else who saw it, the infield fly rule did not apply. The rule states that it applies on a fly ball that an infielder can catch with "ordinary effort." That particular Texas leaguer was caught at a full sprint, at full stretch, hardly ordinary effort.

We could find a million examples of how Joe West is an idiot. He really does need to go into that good night of retirement and take Angel Hernandez with him...(and probably a few others...is Balkin' Bob Davidson still working?)
Dutch Rennert was one of my favorite umps. I don't know how good/bad hes was. I just loved the way he called "strike one."
Yeah, but there was no doubt whether it was a ball or strike. When it was a ball, you could really hear Dutch yell, "Ball 1!."That would definitely not fit with the idea of shorter games. Dude probably added 3 or 4 minutes a game with those shenanigans.
Jason Varitek was umpiring an intrasquad game and had a hell of a strike three maneuver.

Or in the case of some umpires, total silence. Not "hoop" and "hawp"?
What's this I hear about Aubrey Huff being named Mets manager?
The Mets' website doesn't say anything about it. I really hope this isn't true...
I thought they had a manager?
