MLB Pseudo-Season 2020: Roger, Dodgers

I'm sure every outlet has reported that, but if there's no season this year and MLB pushes for it to be changed, is it something they can do? MLB rules don't always match up with the legal system.

Like, is it defined as a "season" if no games are played? I mean, I hope we get some baseball after all this, but you never know.

This is what CBS has on the subject...

The answer is that MLB would consider those suspensions to be fulfilled anyway, according to ESPN's Buster Olney. That's because commissioner Rob Manfred did not establish a set number of games that Luhnow and Hinch had to sit out. Rather, the suspensions are worded to elapse "following the completion of the 2020 World Series."

Now, they could be in limbo forever if there is no 2020 World Series.

I have a feeling we aren't going to have a season at all. I think all sports are done until 2021. Even if they try and force a season and people are still getting sick the Players Union will kick up a fit that their players are being put in danger and what happens the first time even a single player gets sick with COVID during the season. COVID is something that is going to be with us along time and what one does when cases are spotted.

They'll kick up an even bigger fit when players start missing paychecks. Don't underestimate greed, even in the face of a life-altering situation.

Toronto announces events ban until June 30th.

The City of Toronto has banned public events until at least June 30, tweets Tom Harrington of CBC News Radio. While it’s long been apparent that Major League Baseball’s shutdown will extend beyond the current May 10 date, the news out of Toronto provides further evidence that if the league determines that play can indeed resume, there will be notable challenges and obstacles to staging MLB games.

My all-time baseball idol, Al Kaline, died today at age 85. RIP, Al. Being born in Toledo, I was a born and bred Tigers fan and Kaline (along with Harvey Kuenn) was my favorite player. Dad took me to Briggs Stadium a number of times when I was in grammar school. The good old days,

I don't see any sports league filling up stadiums with fans anytime soon. It ain't happening for a long time. You can kiss full seasons of baseball and NFL goodbye for this year.

Fans are irrelevant, if they can figure a way to play with just players they will, all about having live content on TV, the 7 inning game/double headers all played in Arizona with players who only go to the games and then a locked down hotel show that.

It would feel really weird though watching those games on tv especially football were you always expect to here cheering and all that stuff. Did anyone watch that Orioles game a few years ago when their was some riots? What was it like?

Yeah, I watched the empty-stadium game. It was incredibly weird, especially having the Orioles' PA announcer calling the names of each batter ... to an audience of zero.

If the Rays play in an empty minor league stadium would it really be any different than playing in their major league stadium?

11 years ago today I went to the first opening day for Citi-Field.

Not this year. They signed Mike Moustakes so they are basically a inch closer to winning the World Series!

Continues to be fairly frustrating that the Astros are essentially burning off their cheating punishment in a lost season, but MLB won't announce whether or not the Red Sox will be punished for 2018's similar (but hopefully lesser) hijinks until some random date in the future. They've said all the investigation stuff was done a while ago. Sitting on it is just drawing it out. Then again, if it's written as X number of games instead of 'after 2020 world series', guess it won't matter until a game is played. Since Cora is already fired, and they show no inclination to punish players anyway, not sure what more punishment would be coming outside of monetary stuff...?
