MLB Pseudo-Season 2020: Roger, Dodgers

Did they actually do that?
It was reported on NPR back at the beginning of July that American Airlines would begin fully booking their planes again; they'd previously been blocking off the middle seats to physically distance the passengers. I can't find any evidence that any other carriers have tried to do this; bookings may still be so low that it's not an issue so far. (source: Here & Now, 7/1/20)

I watched the Dodger-Giant game last night and both teams did a lot of radical infield shifting. Only one hitter took advantage and laid a bunt down the third base line. Is there something in the players' code that says thou shalt not hit the ball to the opposite field? I hate to sound like an old curmudgeon, but back in the day, hitters would have worn the shift out - with the notable exception of The Splendid Splinter who just looked at the shift as a dare to pull the ball. Ted did and still hit .344 lifetime. So, I guess he wore the shift out too, just not in the conventional sense.

I can't watch the Brewers-Cubs game on ESPN because I don't have the Marquee network. It's not available to us Dish customers apparently. I have the app but they require you to sign in with your provider. No dice with Dish. I didn't think they coul blackout nationally televised games.

MLB Extra Innings is free this weekend on DirecTV. Is that something on Dish as well, or is it exclusive to DirecTV?

Fake crowd noise is creepy.

I like expanding playoff to 16 but hate 3 game 1st round. In a game where the better team pretty much has a 60% chance to win tops in any given game all that does is create randomness in the outcome.

Yeah. I have it. Watching Cardinals game right now. I can get the Cubs game on YouTube live streaming service but it's $65 a month. The Cubs ain't worth $65 when literally everybody else's games are free.

I have tried to watch some of the games but I just can't get into them. I think I am skipping this season. It all feels pointless. Nobody is every going to look at the World Series winner as a legit Champion. It feels like spring training without a end.

Watching the Angels at the A’s.

I guess I wasn’t paying attention to all the details (which sounds like me).

Okay, so...they are piping in fake crowd noises, and behind the plate they have cardboard cutout people.

Cardboard cutout people.

This is really the plan for televising baseball this season?

Why?

My thoughts exactly. The cutouts look so weird and ridiculous. And just how much money was wasted on shit?

But on top of that, players, coaches, and umps are a mixed bag of masked, partially masked, sometimes masked, and not masked at all, which defeats the purpose of masking at all for them. I realize they're isolated as a whole but on appearance levels, it doesn't look good and sends the wrong message (especially in lieu of masking in general being such a ridiculously divided issue).

If they want to make money, they could charge 100 people $10K each for tickets to go to the game.

You know some rich a-holes would pay for that.

Fox is carrying the Brewers-Cubs game and thank God, no Joe Buck. I couldn't take Buck on opening weekend. Fox has their virtual fans packing Wrigley field in some views but not while the game is on. So far, the virtual fans were only in the opening on an overhead shot.

At least Sunday's game will be back with Len & JD. They aren't spectacular, but they aren't annoying like some national guys I could mention.

Being originally from Toledo, I grew up with Ernie Harwell doing Tigers games on the radio. On good old AM radios, if you held your tongue just right and sat facing the right direction, you might pick up the Indians, too. We even got WGN once in a blue moon.
