MLB Offseason 2018-19: SIGN KIMBREL AND KEUCHEL YOU FUCKS

Hoping the Yankees sign Corbin...

I don't know, all of Corbin's peripherals, beginning with a huge drop in his fastball velocity, point to him very much being on the brink of collapse.

He'd also give up a lot more dingers in the bandbox that is Yankee Stadium as opposed to pitcher-friendly Chase Field:

Hmmmm.... he's listed as the #2 guy available behind Eovaldi.

The Yankees really missed out last year not landing Cole.

As always it seems, quality starting pitching is hard to come by.

The cupboard isn't bare in the minors though. Maybe we can land one from there.

According to The Athletic, the Cubs are unlikely to make a big move this offseason, citing money concerns.

Oh, come on, guys, you have more money than God and one of the most valuable teams in all of baseball along with the third-highest payroll; the only "money concern" you could have is wanting to be cheap.

That's ... huh, okay.

In other news, the Orioles continue to be utterly incompetent; they're not going to hire a manager until they have a new general manager (which is fair) ... but according to the Angelos brothers, they expect the process of selecting a new GM to take as long as six more weeks, which would potentially put them past the winter meetings.

Three 19-year-old Reds minor leaguers were involved in a car wreck in the Dominican Republic; one is dead, one in critical condition and another in stable condition.

I swear to God, roads in the DR must be like Mad Max or something, because MLB / MiLB players seem to die in car accidents there every offseason. You can almost set your watch to it.

I don't know if the old Top Gear ever went to the DR, but many other countries they did go to have roads you risk your life just driving on.

Mets fire hitting coach and reassigning bullpen coach and will likely fire the bench and first base coach.

Dude was banned from baseball twice. Beyond that, I don't really feel that he made any meaningful impact to the game during his years as an owner, beyond being one of the key instigators of Fay Vincent's ouster and throwing money around like a drunken sailor.

In other news, the Cubs have announced that they will not discuss an extension with Joe Maddon this offseason, effectively rendering him a lame duck in 2019.

He's since caught the taste for a championship, realized he's in a good spot if he wants to win, and opted in. Kinda hoped he'd opt out, if only to reallocate the money, but also not bad to have some roster certainty with all the big pieces coming up over the next year or two.

It all depends on what Price is, performance wise, in a couple years when those big pieces come up. And if David thinks he's been treated unfairly by fans and media up to this point, he'd better hope he doesn't suck in a year or two because if he does, the negativity thrown his way will be such that he's never seen before if he's pitching poorly AND still making 30 mil per year.

...for big money and that he sucks when he gets there. :techman:

And despite what Eovaldi did for the Red Sox in the post season I'd be reluctant to throw big money and years at him given his inconsistent performance history and injuries.

Hasn't the same thing been "reported" the last few years? Obviously I'm against the Cubs breaking the bank for Harper and Machado is an ass, but there's some decent 2nd tier guys out there that can help, especially pitchers.

I will never understand your hatred of Harper, a guy who has managed to get on-base at a nearly .400 clip in his career.

I feel he's overhyped and not a good "team" guy. The one thing the Cubs have is a good clubhouse team.

Harper is not worth the potential $400M some team is going to throw at him and we have more needs right now (1 or 2 starters, and 1 or 2 bullpen arms), plus re-signing some of our own guys in a year or two.

Could the Cubs afford Harper? Sure. Should they try? Not so much.
