MLB Offseason 2014-15: Wait, pitchers and catchers report WHEN?

While hot streaks aren't really a thing (they're just statistical flukes followed by regression to the mean), choking is a thing. So a player may not "step up to the plate," so to speak, in clutch situations (obviously, he literally would, since it's Baseball), players do choke in big situations. So it's possible a player like Cabrera is better at not choking (not saying it's true, just that it's possibly true).

Exactly...

That isn't saying Carera is one. I have no idea. It could also be perception bias.

Headley signs the deal with the Yankees. Can't wait to hear what Timby has to say about this one. :)

52 mil / 4 years

Congratulations on forking out $50 million for a 30-year-old utility guy who strikes out a ton and has hit .246 the past two seasons, I guess.

MVP candidate, Silver Slugger and Gold Glove in 2012...

We can thank Panda for having to go 4 years...

We could have done worse  (and did at SS)

With nothing in his profile before or since to suggest he's capable of repeating that fluke performance.

Yes, having the best- or second-best glove in the league on your team is such a tragedy. One would think Yankee fans would be happy they no longer have to hear "past a diving Jeter" several times a game.

You kill me. :guffaw:

I haven't said anything derogatory about this kids glove yet, only his bat. ... and his bat IS lacking. (hey, I hope he busts out and bats .300)

I'm OK with the Headley sign. I saw enough of him last year to know he'll be more than capable and better than Choke-Rod. He's pretty damn hand with the mitt too.

His bat has upside. I have said this multiple times, but you continue to ignore it (or at least refuse to engage with me on this point) because ... because I don't even fucking know. (If only there were something differentiating Brendan Ryan / Chase Headley from Didi Gregorius ... hmm.)

By "Choke-Rod," I presume you mean Rodriguez, by which you mean the guy who had several of the greatest postseason batting performances in recorded history.

And Headley's numbers have shown him to be a decidedly lower-than-average bat. His ridiculous 2012 is an outlier.

Bud Selig looks like your average every day James Bond villain.

He looks like a used car salesman, which ... well, he was, a long time ago.

I get the sentiment on the part of the Brewers' organization, particularly considering one can make a strong argument that Selig has been the best commissioner in the sport's history, but reconstructing his office just feels weird.

There's a rumor starting to pick up some traction that Matt Kemp failed his physical (buoyed by reports that the Padres are thisclose to getting Wil Myers out of Tampa Bay, which is a franchise-ruinous move for the Rays, as San Diego literally has no prospects or pre-arb players worth a shit), which, if true, torpedoes like half the trades that happened at the winter meetings.

Word has leaked (and this is a HIPAA violation) that the holdup on the Kemp trade to San Diego is that his physical showed he has arthritis in both hips.

At 30 years old? That's fucked up.
