MLB Offseason 2012

USA Today is reporting that the Marlins / Blue Jays trade/fire sale/shit on the city of Miami is going under review by the commissioner's office. Selig is reportedly pissed.

Hey, it's not Toronto's problem that Loria is a jackass that bilked them out of money. Why should Toronto fans be punished to suffer because of that?

Besides Adrian Gonzalez, Josh Beckett, and Carl Crawford for less than what the Marlins are getting in return was allowed. You can't turn the clock back now.

Oh, I'm not saying Selig should or even can reject the deal. It's more worth noting that it's remarkable that Selig is pissed at Loria, who until now has been part of Selig's inner circle of owners (along with Reinsdorf, David Glass, Lew Wolff and the Wilpons).

Melky is nothing more than a fourth outfielder / head case.

That's selling him a bit short. He's definitely going to have a major regression next season, but while 2 / 16 is a bit of an overpay considering his one talent of note is "hit lots and lots of singles," but it's not terrible. I was fully expecting Ruben Amaro to throw some insanely moronic deal at Cabrera just to block Dom Brown, because, at the end of the day ... Rube gonna Rube.

Phillies seem to be playing it slow this offseason. Uncharacteristic, I know, but still.

Well the 12 player deal between the Blue Jays and the Marlins has been finalized. Everyone has had a physical and passed. I know this sucks for the Miami fans, in a move that has made them even more pathetic then the Mets. However this is a real gain for Toranto. Going from a 70 million dollar payroll to an 120 million over night. Will this turn into a championship for the Blue Jays, don't know. Just know the ALE just a whole lot more interesting.

I'll be living in Syracuse come next baseball season and its only a five hour drive to Toranto. I may have to become a Blue Jays fan and see a few games.

I'm not thrilled with this either...

The prospect of Rupert Fucking Murdoch getting his claws into the YES Network is not exactly an appealing one, for reasons which I hope would become apparent...

Settle down, Beavis.

It's a TV network you don't get where you live and even if you did would have no impact on you.

^ Would you want your favorite team's network to be turned into tabloid trash?

And I do get YES broadcasted games via MLB.TV.

^ Somehow I suspect that if it was your team, you would. You're not a fan of Fox News, are ya? ;) (I don't even watch that crap.)

^ Would you want your favorite team's network to be turned into tabloid trash?

Yes, because Blue Sky Studios (the Ice Age films), the Wall Street Journal, the HarperCollins book group, 20th Century FOX's television studios and the 20th Century Fox Film Corporation are all producing tabloid trash, because they've become infected due to osmosis.

^ So you wouldn't mind if Murdoch got ahold of the Cubs' TV network and started messing around with it? With him, anything's possible.

Sure, those things you mentioned might have escaped unscathed, but this is also the same man who's behind those paragons of virtue known as The Sun and News of the World...

Given how legendarily shitty the Tribune Corporation was, I wouldn't notice much of a difference.

Murdoch is in the business of making money. He lets Roger Ailes run FOX News the way he does because a ton of people tune in and watch it. By the same token, he doesn't have a problem with Seth McFarlane mercilessly skewering FOX News on Family Guy and his other programming (same with The Simpsons), because those programs draw in a ton of viewers.

If MSNBC didn't already have the "left-leaning news channel" market cornered, Murdoch would have been all over that shit and run it right alongside FOX News -- hell, that's why MSNBC intentionally realigned itself as a progressive channel, because they wanted to get out in front of the possibility of News Corporation doing so.

As long as they have decent game coverage, I don't give a freezer burnt bag of old dicks who the suits are.

http://www.thestar.com/sports/baseb...lue-jays-hire-john-gibbons-as-manager-reports

So our best choice for a new manager...is an old manager who has a .500 record?

Not thrilled with the hire, but I'll give it a chance.

If I'm correct, this will be only the fourth time in franchise history that they have hired a manager with previous MLB experience. It will also be the second time where that previous experience was with the Jays.

You're right about it being the second time around for him and my main issue with him is he didn't do anything spectacular last night. People can comment about how there are more tools for the Jays right now, but he didn't inspire anything last time he was here.
