MLB Offseason 2011

I've seen reports that say Joe Torre is worth about $60 million. This real estate mogul must be filthy stinking rich.

I wish they'd drop all this bullshit about adding another wildcard team. I mean, I know why they're doing it - just to make money from broadcasting the play-in game (no other reason, of course). But I still hate it.

They should just drop ALL wildcards and restructure both leagues into four divisions.

At least some Wild Card makes sense. As good as it is to have division races, sometimes the two clearly best teams are in the same division. It's the AL East where the Wild Card is most needed.

ETA: Besides, you would need two more expansion teams to have four divisions.

Astros canned Ed Wade.

Gosh, between Wade, Hendry, Reagins ... We're losing our sources of GM hilarity.

At least Ruben Amaro is stepping up.

I'm ok with that.

Las Vegas and ... ???? :D

Trying to figure this out, I think I ended up with teams needed for a southern division that included Tampa and the Rangers and no one else. I went with the Albuquerque Isotopes and maybe New Orleans or somewhere like that. Baseball certainly doesn't actually need expansion right now.

Aw, I wanted more players from the Astros :(

You will get the Papelbon obscenity of a contract and you will like it.

If anything, they should probably contract a couple of teams. But that's not going to happen, of course.

If we're going to expand and add two more teams, though, Portland and Charlotte could work.

Brooklyn! Of course, the Mets and the Yankees would never allow it but the NYC market is one of the few that could actually support yet another team. It's a massive market and certainly a baseball town.

What??? They're going to get more teams involved in the race and it will increase viewership and ticket sales in September because now winning the division will be a HUGE advantage. If they wanted more broadcast money for one game they could just make the ALDS and NLDS go to 7 games.

I'm the exact opposite. Him plus a moronically over zealous fan base plus a team that just melted down plus a crazy media market = dumpster fire. Which will be a lot of fun to watch.
