On a mostly unrelated note, still looking for people to join the yearly TrekBBS fantasy baseball league, if people wanna check out that thread. Just PM me your email address and I'll get you an invite through ESPN

Hmm. I guess I just assumed that players had to sign before spring training started.

And if you mean Suzyn Waldman, no, I must have missed that bit.

Here you go:

Pretty, uh, interesting, even-keeled reporting from Suzyn

Even better considering they paid Clemens out the ass, and he didn't do jack shit for the Yankees. Went 6-6 with a 4.18 era during the season, and then shit the bed in the post season, going 2.1 innings for an 11.51 era in his one start.

They made a big deal out of 'beating' the Red Sox to getting him. It was 2007, though, and I think the Sox did ok that year, if I recall

yeah, she's a hack. Then again, there's the other half of the YES network "and an A-bomb, from A-Rod..." really?

Every time I hear the YES broadcast, makes me grateful for how good I've got it with Don and Remy on NESN. They can get silly when they're bored, but avoid the lame histronics and generally don't embarass themselves when they aren't screwing around...

Everytime I hear Sterling and the ugly chick, it makes me grateful for Jon Miller, Mike Krukow, Duane Kuiper and Dave Flemming. Best announce team in Baseball IMO, and I've been to many other cities (including Boston) to say that.

I love Don and Remy. While they obviously root for the Sox, they are usually fair and balanced in their criticism and analysis.

I do like though, during boring games, when they go off on these tangents that have NOTHING to do with the game. I think it was either 04, or 05, they were talking about the eclipse, and Remy goes, "Thats when the Sun goes between the earth and the moon", and a few minutes later, Don's like, "Wait, thats not right." It ended with Remy drawing Manny on fire in LF.

I'll sometimes hear Sterling/Waldman when listening on XM. It's painful.

I remember her from middays on WFAN, as well as Knicks pre/post shows and she was brutal. Nasal voice, hammed up accent, etc.

And Sterling is a windbag. It is high, it is far, it us...uhh caught by the second baseman. Yikes.

Oh man, I must have missed that one. :guffaw: Don and Jerry are great. I was worried that after his health issues last year that Remy might not have come back.

Now that there's a lot of games on DVD, I wish there was a way to disable all annoucing and commentator tracks and just listen to the stadium's own live sounds, like the crowd and the P.A. voice.

Maybe it's just me, but if your announcers weren't complete hacks, you wouldn't mind hearing them. Don and Remy usually add a little something to the discussion. Hell, having Dennis Eckersley as a fill-in last year was interesting (although he overused the word "cheese" a lot) to get a decent breakdown of how the pitcher is doing/thinking. He was right in predicting most of what was going on, which is fun.

We don't get any of those broadcasters - Kay, Waldman, Sterling, etc. - out here. Usually the only ones I hear (for Yankees games) are Jon Miller and Joe Morgan. Who are okay, I guess. In any case, I hardly think it's appropriate to blame the team (or its fans) for the quality of the announcers...

My favorite commentator I've heard so far is actually Ron Darling. Not because he used to be a Met, but just because he knows his stuff and is less annoying than any of the others.

Conversely, the MOST grating ones I've ever heard are the ones for the Chicago networks. I fucking hate it when I try to watch a Yankees/Whitesox or Cubs/Mets game and I get nothing but gushing for the Chicago team for hours. :brickwall:

I know that announcers are necessary for broadcasts, but I was just hoping that *DVD* releases would have the option of removing them all. I personally don't need to hear the announcers, I only want to watch the game.

Although now that Bob Sheppard's retired, it just wouldn't feel right, I guess. :sigh:

I really liked Eck as well this year. His schtick was pretty funny most of the time, and it was interesting to get POV of a pitcher watching the game, rather then a position player like Remy was. I hope he works some of the broadcasts next year as well.

As for Joe Morgan...god kill me when I have to listen to that man...his borderline obsession with Robinson Cano makes me want to puke whenever he calls a Sox-Yanks game.

Yeah, that's true. Just wanna die whenever Fox is doing a game, and god help us if it's Yankees/Red Sox! And then there's Scooter the Baseball...

I don't know why I get so excited for this, but the Giants Pitchers and Catchers will report today in Arizona. Baseball season is just around the Corner and I'm still glad Lincecum avoided Arbitration at long last. It's probably a hopeless cause, but I'm looking forward to this year and seeing what the new hitters can do as well as that rotation. I'm not sure if I trust the bullpen though, since even Wilson can be erratic at times.

I grew up with a healthy dose of Tim McCarver when he called Mets games in the 80s. He is such a windbag. He tells way too many stories about his playing days. And whenever he does a situational analysis - You've got to bring in the lefty to face so and so, etc. - he always is dead wrong.

I like Ken Rosenthal on MLB Network, but he says nothing of importance on the sidelines on Fox, just little prepared blurbs.

Looks like Johnny Damon's off to the Tigers... Linky

:(

I wish the Yanks had tried harder to keep him. Oh well, this is only a one-year deal, so maybe he'll be back.

God help him when he has his first at-bat at Yankee Stadium in a Tiger uniform.
