MLB Chatter 2008

Interestingly enough, yesterday I heard a snippet from an interview with John Smoltz. He is oen of the most successful post-season pitchers in recent memory, and he basically said you have to relax and not pitch like it's the end of the world. Don't lok at it as a "do or die", because that tends to take you out of your nromal rhythm, out of what got you there in the first place.

Peter Gammons this morning said effectively that the Cubs seemed as if they were playing like game 2 was it, as if they were in dire need of the game. Sure it may technically be true, but playing as if that's the case hurts you more than it helps you. That's a VERY loose paraphrase/translation, so I may have gotten some of his meanign incorrect... but it's not too far off. From the sound of things, the Cubs really seem as if they are playing on nerves

I just have to say, as a Dodgers fan, to all the Cubs fans out there...

2-0 fellas.

See you on Saturday.

Cubs/Sox would be good, but considering all the Boston connections that the Dodgers have, a Dodgers/Sox Series could be an entertaining one as well.

Dice-K doesn't inspire confidence, but the slippery bastard HAS managed to win 18 games somehow, so there's always a chance.

I'm hoping for Dodgers-Red Sox now just so the Sox can hit asshole in the head everytime he bats.

And Dice-K is one of the best pitches in baseball and is 9-0 on away games.

The Angels only faced him once this year, but worked him over pretty good.

I can't believe we're on the verge of another first round exit.

C'mon Angels!!!!

:scream:

On the verge? Move away from the ledge, Digits. Only one game has been played so far. I've seen numerous series start out that way, only to have the tide turned quickly due to some outstanding performance by one player.

Be careful to not let Guerrero run the bases too much, unless it's a 4-bagger. ;) The Angels need to relax and play the way they did t get there in the first place. Boston has the experience, undoubtedly. Yet the Angels have the talent to overcome it if they play their game.

Incidentally, did anyone watch the Rays/ChiSox game last night? I'd love to have seen Longoria's two homers in two at-bats to start the game. Right away it's "I'm ready to play". BTW, anyone know what the status is for Carlos Pena?

That they're the Cubs' long lost identical twins? No, wait... the Angels have won a WS, haven't they .....

The Cubs won a World Series...

In 1908. ;)

There is always next year Cub fans!

And if the Angel's lose tonight then they are screwed.

Yeah, I bet you're right. If the Angels can't win tonight's game, it's over. Boston has a veteran team witha killer instinct and bullpen to match. As much as I'd like to see teh Red Sox go up against Manny in the World Series, I dont' want to sit through mroe drivel about "Bost/LA", "East/West", etc. etc. ... the NBA FInals were nauseatingly enough all on their own.

As a Dodgers fan, I honestly feel bad for the Cubbies. This was supposed to be your year. Century mark and all... and the only reason the Dodgers came out on top of the NL West is because the rest of the division sucked even more than we did through the first half. If the Dodgers weren't in this I'd be behind the Cubs...

As for the Angels... they won the 2002 WS. I got to go to one of the games. I was really kind of hoping for a "freeway series" this year, but it looks like that's not meant to be.

That's what great pitching will do for you in a short series. It's a GREAT equalizer.

There is so much more left to play, and the Angels finished with such a great record for a reason.

No, no, no.

What I'm talking about is that the Boston Fucking Red Sox are in the Angels' heads! They have been since Hendu and Donnie Moore in 1986.

The Angels knocked Boston all over the place this season. And the first game in the playoffs, they crap themselves.

It's like here we go again.

I'm not jumping ship, just saying this is all very familiar....

Donnie Moore.... :(

Not to bring back unpleasant memories, but wasn't his suicide theorized to have been in part due to depression over giving up that home run to Hendu?

Yes. He never got over it, so the story goes.

Sadly, only he knows for sure.

Dang. I wonder when you get to the point where "a game is just a game." It's not worth a life over. If it was, I'd have to wonder what is going on in Chicago right now.

Kazmir pitched a crappy game but the Rays are in position to win again. I`m getting a 69 miracle Mets vibe off of this team.

Lets go Rays

Rays up 2-0. Their bullpen is scary good. Even though the starter can not have a good start, they are still in a position to win handily. Go Rays indeed.
