MLB Chatter 2008

Hank Steinbrenner is a tool. Really, I mean I am not in love with his father, but atleast the man had some class I suppose. Hank has nothing, and it really is sad. When the Yankee's start winning again, which will happen with that payroll, he is gonna start trashing every other team in the league, you watch. And really, even as a Sox fan, I loved Joe Torre, and to see him being bashed like this is just awful.

I have to admit that it'd be an awful lot fo fun to see a Tampa/Milwaukee or Minnesota/Milwaukee world series. Why? Because of the whole small market or low payroll teams being able to win, proving that while a large payroll like the Yankees, Red Sox, Mets, etc helps tremendously it's no guarantee. Just like being a small market team (D-backs, Twins, Marlins) isn't necessarily an impediment.

Here's an article about Hank Stienbrenner complaining that is isn't fair that Joe Torre and the Dodgers will go to the playoffs and the Yankees are staying at home:

"The biggest problem is the divisional setup in major league baseball. I didn't like it in the 1970s, and I hate it now," Steinbrenner wrote. "Baseball went to a multidivision setup to create more races, rivalries and excitement. But it isn't fair. You see it this season, with plenty of people in the media pointing out that Joe Torre and the Dodgers are going to the playoffs while we're not. "This is by no means a knock on Torre - let me make that clear-but look at the division they're in. If L.A. were in the AL East, it wouldn't be in the playoff discussion. The AL East is never weak."
Wow, that's just sad.

Well look at that... the Mets' bullpen didn't blow it tonight. But if I'm the Cubs or Dodgers, I have to love the prospect of playing the Mets in the playoffs if they make it. Tonight notwithstanding, this team is a mess right now.

Heh... Can you imagine a TWins/Brewers World Series? Whichever network is broadcasting it would probably jump off the to of A-Rod's wallet at the potential for low ratings here.

I've been dreaming of a Twins/Brewers World Series ever since the Brewers moved over to the NL. The networks would hate it, but it'd be huge around here.

A really screwy night so far.....

Both the Twins and ChiSox are getting clubbed, so no change in the AL Central

The Rays lose, so their magic # on the AL East stays at 1. The BoSox are losing .... except thei game is suspended due to rain in the top of the 5th. Consequently, if play does not resume, they play the whole game all over again.

In the NL, the Mets lose and the Phils win and the Brewers are winning. So the Mets are down to their last breath.

I'd love to see the Braves knock off the Astros tonight. These guys are on a mission to screw over everybody in September. If only they had played this way in August...

Watching the Yanks-Sox game tonight is almost surreal. There is really nothing on the line (unless the Rays blow it), and the Sox are pretty much throwing the B team out there...in pitchers and hitters. The fact that Fenway is almost empty due to the rain and late start, and the fog that is hanging low in the park almost makes it seem like a dream.

It seems like this this is the most insignificant Red Sox-Yankee game in recent memory.

That and the fact that Fenway is so empty, you can hear EVERY SINGLE insult sent towards the Yankee players, it's kinda funny.

Well the game just restarted...lets see what happens.

And the Mets are fucked.

And there goes Milwaukee into a 1 game lead for the NL wildcard. This Seth McCLung pitched a helluva game in relief. 4 innings, 1 hit, 1 walk and 0 runs .l... and after his manager had to use so many pitchers in relife in the recent couple games. That is a performance worht remembering.

Well tonight after two rain delays, the Scranton Wilkes Barre Yankees beat the Pawtucket Red Sox 19-8, therefore giving the Rays the AL East title. To say I am surprised is an understatement, but they have played well all year, congrats to them. Even though I do say that once a team reaches the postseason, it becomes a crapshoot, and I think every team has an equal chance, so I am glad the Sox made it through despite it being through the wild card.

ON TO ThE POSTSEASON!

Yup, that sums it up. The first time was just plain depressing. The second time its like being screwed in the crapper by someone wearing an 80 grit sandpaper condom.

Yeah. With all the work Minaya went doing on the Starting Rotation, it seems he forgot about the bullpen, which was just going to be okay anyway, even before all the injuries.

I normally have no rooting interest in the American League, but having the Twins make it is more interesting than the ChiSox, so hopefully that'll happen.

The Angels have clinched the best record in baseball, and home field advantage through the playoffs.

Interesting thing is our record on the road and our record at home are nearly identical. Los Angeles finished 19 games over .500 on the road. That pretty impressive if you think about it.

Anyway, let's get on to the playoffs!

GO ANGELS!

Just got back from Big Shea and the old dump was rocking. I had my white pinstriped Santana jersey with the blue fitted and Santana did his thing. He won the Cy Young today and proved he is worth every single red cent. I`m glad this is gonna be my last memory of Shea because you can`t beat a game like this. I got free food and drink and got to go on the field thanks to the www.garykeithandron.com event, I saw on Metsblog. We were cheering on Santana a good 10 mins after both teams left the field and they posted the Cubs score.

Heres hoping the Cubbies do their thing tommorow and take out the Brewers.
