Damn, with the Phillies winning, there goes that last slimmer of a chance that I hoped for the Marlins to create a three-way tie in the East. Alas.

Waaaahh! Bad Mets. 
There was a chance of a three-way tie last year, but that hope has been gone for a long time this year. If it wasn't for the fact that I wanted the Phillies to win outright (as they did) to avoid the stress of a playoff, a three-way tie last year would've been really cool.
Imho, the Fish aren't as good a team as either the Mets or Phils, so they really didn't deserve to be part of any tie-breaker.
I'm not criticizing his performance this year, what I'm referring is that fact that he's been injured for most of his career.
He could fall apart at any moment. Nothing against Wood but he's the posterchild for "bad luck."

I know ... but he hasn't spent any time on injured reserve this season has he? If that's true, then perhaps the change to the position from starter was part of it. In any event, it's great to see such talent find a way to survive. Does he throw as fast as he did when he was starting?
Don't think he hit the DL, but he didn't play for a good chunk of a month. Carlos Marmol closed while he was out.
I didn't say there was any hope, just that last slimmer of a chance had evaporated (it relied on the Phillies losing all of their remaining games, the Marlins winning all of theirs, and the Mets winning and losing a certain number that I've already forgotten).
As for deserving, you should know by now that I hate the Phillies and don't care for the Mets, so I wanted the Marlins beat both of them.
The Marlins now have to win all their games to stay in contention.

I'm going to the Twins/White Sox game tonight. I hate the Metrodome, but it'll be a lot more tolerable if the Twins can pull out a victory. If not, I'll just have to drink a lot of $6 beer (have a dentist appointment today, so I probably won't be able to eat anyway).
The Twins have played well against the ChiSox at the dome, so I'm hoping they can get a sweep and move back into first. Even winning two would be nice- that'd put them only a half game back, and they finish the season at home against K.C. (I have tickets for that final game, but I'm giving them away).

Anyone else think it's funny that the Reds have played all playoff contenders since 9/5? And they've actually won every series!!

So at the end of the year, who has won the two big Twin trades?
Johan Santana for a bunch of guys (Carlos Gomez, Deolis Guerra, Kevin Mulvey, and Philip Humbar) and Matt Garza and Jason Barlett for a bunch of guys and Delmon Young.
Right now, I think Garza would have been good for Minnesota. They are having pitching problems (mainly their bullpen).

Johan 8ip 10k 2 runs allowed against the Cubbies. Johan is God and us suicidal Met fans get a temporary reprieve. I had no urge to strangle anybody today or drink.
EDIT: In 13 starts in the second half of this season, Johan Santana is 6–0 with 2.38 ERA, during which the Mets are 10–3.
Omar deserves his 4 year extenstion just for bringing in Johan the God.

I don't blame the Twinkies for getting rid of Santana. He needed to go simply because he would have hamstrung them with that huge contract.
