Paul "HGH" Byrd does not impress me. He always seems on the verge of imploding, and he's done it today in the 5th inning.
Looks like the best the Sox can hope for is a split of the double-header behind Colon's pitching tonight. Hopefully there won't be any sweeps by the Rays or Twins so no ground will be lost.
Now see, I've seen the exact opposite. I have been very impressed by him. He is fun to watch pitch, and he THROWS STRIKES. Dice-K could learn a thing from him. He is a number five, but a damn good one at that. He keeps us in games and that is his job. Yes he gets hit once and a while, but that's cause he pitches to contact.
Yeah, but he does lead the league in home runs allowed this year, which was one of his problems earlier tonight. I'm also not so hot on him generally for being a juicer.
And tonight Jacoby Ellsbury pretty much ended all hope for the Jays with a 30ft dribbler up the first base line to give the Red Sox a 7-5 win. And with a Rays loss...(Thanks Yankees)...that means nothing is lost today.
Yeah...seeing the pitcher stumble and fall on his face was rather funny. The Twins did creep up one game in the wild card race, but the Sox are pretty safe with a five game lead.
Colon did fairly well tonight with only two earned runs. It'll be interesting to see how he factors into the rotation for the rest of the month.
Tomorrow should be a nice pitchers' duel.
