MLB Chatter 2008

Holy shit, the Sox won on the road, in Safeco, also known as Auswitz for the Red Sox for the last few years. Lester with the win, Tek with a homer, and every time I see Lowrie up to bat, or making a play rather then Lugo, I feel much better, much better.

Angels are 5-1 against Boston this year.

:)

Yet they can't clean up against mighty Cleveland.

Nice to see the Sox playing the Mariners. Hopefully we can make up some ground on fading TB--as long as the mid-relievers stay out of it.

(taps the rest of the forum on their collective shoulders...) uhhhh, I hate to break it to you all but the Yankees may have woken up. They're only 4 1/2 out, after going 7-3 in their last 10.

And Tampa Bay may have righted their ship in time. Kazmir 2-hit the A's, making it 3 of 4 since the break.

I can't tell which division race is going to be the best. Only the AL West seems to be a yawnfest at the moment:
NL West has the D-backs and Dodgers tied
NL Central has the Brewers and Cards only 2 games back of the Cubs (notice I didn't say cubbies.)
NL East has the Phils and Mets tied, with the Marlins only 1 game back.

AL East has the BoSox and Yanks within 4 1/2 games of the Rays
AL Central has the Twins only 1/2 game behind the White Sox, and the Tigers onyl 5 back of the Twins.

I think the two divisions that are going to be really fun are the AL and NL central. The West will be yawners with the Angels pretty much in the drivers seat and the NL west just sucks, but the central has a three team race with the Cards, Cubs, and Brew crew in the NL and Chicago, Detroit, and Minnesota (Who no one is talking about) in the AL. With the trades that went through in the NL central, and St. Luis might be pulling off something, this is going to be fun going down the home stretch.

As for the East, that's a tough one to figure out. I really want the Rays to pull this off but you always have to factor in the Yankees and Red Sox. In the NL, I haven't really been following it but it seems like Philadelphia and Florida and New York will be duking it out. It's going to be a fun few months left.

Tonights the big day at Shea as Johan goes to the mound against Joe Blanton and the Phillies. I can`t wait to see the Phillies offense shut down by our superior pitching and for them to head back to their little city in second place. I think I`ll have a cheesesteak tonight as Johan dismantles their offense.

It's not entirely their fault. After years of being on top, they've since been scarred by the 2004 collapse, and the Sox taking over the division. Hell, the Rays are even on the rise, so the Yanks are stuck with an aging, injured team in 3rd place. And because of the personalities involved, they can't even brand themselves as lovable losers. Just an aging beauty queen with her looks fading ;)

Yes, absolutely right, after a few years of not winning the World Series we're just horrible, you can call me after we suck for 80 years like you guys.

From the "What have you done for me lately" category:

Who's won the World Series more times in the last eight years?

About 10 years?

Huh? I don't understand your question. Is it even a question?

Anyway, the Yankees haven't won the World Series since 2000, Boston has won it twice since then.

Or, he will last fours innings like he did against the Reds.

I am not a Phillies fan, but I live in Philly and I watch them play, and they can be a damn good team. I would not take them so lightly if I were you, Johan Santana or not. If they can get their shit together with the lineup, and Blanton and Myers pitch effectively, not great, not even good, but just effectively, they can and probably will win the NL East.

Hell, seeing as how Santana has gotten shit luck in the run department lately, they'll probably loose 1-0.

Whoa, Diamondbacks traded Emilio Bonifacio for Jon Rauch!

Another potent pitcher in the bullpen in return for a promising young prospect.

Will a trade for a heavy-hitter be next?

Honestly, he's taken the Phillies lightly a bunch of times, especially last season. I don't get why anyone would take the team that won the division lightly, but OK. I certainly never do that with the Mets.

It's 1-0 already in the first inning. Santana has given up 3 hits and 1 run.

Yep...we'll see if Theo decides to deal before the deadline. Apparently with Buchholz back they've decided to turn Masterson into a mid-reliever. I think it should be the other way around as Clay has yet to show us good stuff this season. And the Hansen-Delcarmen-Timlin axis is starting to make Eric Gagne look like Randy Johnson.

Unfortunately, Randy Johnson is also making Eric Gagne look like Randy Johnson.

Now the question becomes who is going to close this year, Rauch or Lyon?

Have you been seeing how Randy has been pitching his last three outings???

A very good question indeed. Perhaps tonight's game will give us a clue.

Yes I have. It looks like he's finally starting to dial in and get comfortable. My point is that I for one still cringe and wonder which Randy is going to show up when he steps onto the field to start the game. Some games he's been very good, but others.....

Both the NL and AL Central look like they could come down to the wire. Which I would love. Ever since the Brewers went to the NL, we've been hoping for a Twins/Brewers World Series. It's a long shot, but with both teams so close to the top, the speculation around my area (NW WI/MN border) has been growing.

I just wish my Twinkies wouldn't fall apart every time they play at Yankee Stadium. They were on a roll until they got to NY.

All I can say tonight is this...

Hey Deadpool, how bout them Phillies?!:guffaw:

What are you talking about? Johan threw a complete game and we won 5-2, because Jerry isn`t stupid enough to pull Johan out in the 9th inning around 100 pitches like he did in Philly on 7/4 and let the pen blow the game again, especially wiht our closer unavailable. He can`t be that stupid.

I honestly don`t know what to say about that loss last night except that it made me sick. Going into yesterday`s game we were something like 7 and 3 against them but now it feels like we are 0 and 20 against them. I want Jerry given the Willie treatment at 3am in the morning for pulling Santana again. Let the man pitch the 9th inning. It isn`t gonna kill him.
