Pirates completed a 3-game sweep of the Mets, outscoring them 30-4. It would be nice if they could keep up this level of play for more than brief spurts.

As a Red-legs fan he was always a favorite.
I met him once when I was a pup while he was still a Pirate, he was one hell of a nice guy to me--a total stranger--I recognized him, the big cobra gold necklace confirmed it and was a bit star struck.
On the flagship radio station(WLW) I've heard similar stories from dozen of folks who met him by chance over the years, he was a local kid who grew up near Crosley Field in the West End.

Yep. Look at Steve Carlton. He won 20 games one season on a last place Philadelphia Phillies team back in the 1970's.
And now the Pirates have swept the Cardinals in three shutout games. Not as dramatic as their 30-4 sweep of the Mets, but 13-0 is nothing to scoff at either. So that's a six-game winning streak, and they're 8-2 in their last 10 games. Maybe Donnyball really is working...

Not too surprising considering so few pitchers these days are allowed to go long for most games and so many are getting Tommy John surgeries. Seems like we won't get many more pitchers reaching it anytime soon.

Long story short - A's owner John Fisher has already run out of money for his part of the stadium construction just days after groundbreaking and the banks are refusing to lend him more; which is part of the reason he's put the San Jose Earthquake up for sale, to raise the funds needed for the stadium, the costs of which is now expected to exceed $2 Billion.

I heard that if the A's don't have a place the play the owner loses the ownership of the franchise. I'm sure things will work out, but I hope there is some way where he does actually lose the team. Basically I hope this stadium is never built.
