MLB 2024: Baseball is for Everyone (subject to local blackout restrictions)

Cavan Biggio has gone from worst to first and is now a Dodger. They traded a random pitcher for him. He joins a bench full of underperforming utility players and they're hoping someone among them turns it around.

Toronto is the definition of mediocre right now, to the point where I haven't watched a full game yet this season. For a corporation that rakes in billions as owners, this team is always cheap. Need a GM and a presidentt? Pick the Cleveland guys who have managed to maintain the mediocrity there forever and a day. Need a manager? Pick not one, but two minor league managers in a row (Montoyo & Schneider) that seem perfectly fine obeying analytics to set their lineups and are befuddled when it doesn't work. Need to surround your young core with competent veterans? Sign IKF, Turner, Vogelbach and the shadow of Joey Votto.

Biggio was never going to be a superstar hitter like the other two famous father kids in Vlad and Bo, but I doubt this coaching staff has any idea how to help him. Ross Atkins then got a AA pitcher with an injury history for him. Even though they would have gotten nothing for him if he walked, he still managed to scrape the bottom of the barrel.

MLB disciplines umpire Pat Hoberg for gambling but no one knows what the discipline is.

"During this year's Spring Training, Major League Baseball commenced an investigation regarding a potential violation of MLB's sports betting policies by Umpire Pat Hoberg. Mr. Hoberg was removed from the field during the pendency of that investigation. While MLB's investigation did not find any evidence that games worked by Mr. Hoberg were compromised or manipulated in any way, MLB determined that discipline was warranted. Mr. Hoberg has chosen to appeal that determination. Therefore, we cannot comment further until the appeal process is concluded."

He's appealing.

Your wish is granted. Blue Jays DFA Vogelbach.

Ben and Meg on the Effectively Wild podcast have brought him up a few times over the last month or two, basically saying, "Why the hell hasn't Pat Hoberg worked home plate this season?" (He's rated as the most accurate home-plate umpire.)

Now we know why.

Over the past 30 days, per Baseball Reference, the Cubs' playoff probability has plummeted from 88 percent to 15.4 percent.

The Cubs continue to suck rocks. Neris needs to be fired...into the sun. He is no closer and barely even a pitcher.

A team of mediocre players with zero chemistry. Mallee needs to be moved back up to hitting coach and see if he can turn the offense around. Daniel Palencia needs to be brought up from AAA so they can have someone with a closer's stuff.

Angels RF Jo Adell misplays a routine double and the Brewers hitter runs all the way around the bases as three runs score.

Willie Mays has a pretty good case as the #1 defensive outfielder of all time. Most of the numbers favor Andruw Jones, but defensive metrics are notoriously sketchy and Mays is right there.

Right now, MLB is trying to figure out how to take financial advantage of his death.

RIP, Mr. Mays.

Five will get you ten that Fox Sports makes a huge fucking deal about it during the All-Star Game in a few weeks and everyone's jersey bears a #24 patch.
