I don't think they can do that. AFAIK, no matter who's clinched what playoff position (if any), ALL games ultimately must be played.

So even though the Phillies have already clinched a WC spot, they still have to play that last series with the Mets. Even if it doesn't mean anything.

Might the Mets series still have something to do with that (i.e. affecting Philly's overall record for the season)?

As of now, the Phillies have a 5 game lead over the DBags for WC1. So no chance of losing that spot, and no way they catch the Braves for the division.

IDK if one game would change things re: homefield if the Phils advance and better teams don't.

Terry Francona has retired. Gabe Kapler has been fired by the Giants. Phil Nevin is out as Angels manager. Buck Showalter is out at the Mets. Over in San Diego, GM AJ Preller and manager Bob Melvin apparently hate each other, so something's gotta give there, meaning Melvin could be looking for work. Aaron Boone is expected to remain with the Yankees, while new Mets president David Stearns is widely expected to court Craig Counsell, whose contract with Milwaukee is up after the season.

There's always one "out of fucking nowhere" firing, and I'm guessing it might be Pedro Grifol with the White Sox. Bud Black is also a possible scapegoat in Colorado, but no one expected anything more than jack and shit from them.
