MLB 2023 Season: Rangers are going hunting for Snakes

Marcel Ozuna continues to be a clown.

Atlanta Braves designated hitter Marcell Ozuna was removed from Sunday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks for not hustling after hitting a drive to deep center field, manager Brian Snitker confirmed after the contest.

In the fourth inning of the Braves' 8-5 victory, Ozuna smashed a Zac Gallen offering to deep center. He ended up on first base, settling for a 415-foot single because Ozuna stood at home plate and watched the ball reach its destination instead of running right after contact.

Instead of landing in the seats, the ball hit an overhang just below the line that marks a home run. Snitker then replaced Ozuna with Sean Murphy in the sixth inning. Murphy went 0-for-3 after entering.

Any of you Jays fans know why they (apparently) un-retired Roberto Alomar’s number?

Not finding any news about it. The MLB did put him on the ineligible list and terminated him in the spring of 2021 due to sexual misconduct. The Blue Jays cut all ties with him, removing him from the "Level of Excellence" (aka ring of honor or team hall of fame) and taking down his Hall of Fame banner.

In not-shocking-at-all news, James deGrom will undergo Tommy John surgery.

That's his second. His career is likely over.

In other news, the bill for the A's stadium in Las Vegas appears to be dead. The Nevada legislature's session ended last week and the bill was never brought up for consideration. While there is a special session that will be happening, the Speaker of the House has already said that the stadium bill and a bill for tax credits for the creation of a movie studio will not be considered. So, now, the soonest the stadium bill can be heard is during the 2025 session.

While I'm grateful that bill is dead in the water, it's mind boggling that the Nevada state legislature sessions are so infrequent.

It's a peculiarity in the state constitution. Sessions begin on the first Monday in February of odd-numbered years, and under the constitution the legislature's session can last no longer than 120 days. (With exemptions for special sessions called by the governor, or special sessions called for a single purpose by two-thirds of both chambers.)

Yeah, I figured it was something stupid like that. Doesn't make it any less mind boggling in this day and age. Much like the countless recesses in the U.S. Congress.

But I'm ranting off topic in the wrong forum...

Games at Coors field can be so annoying, but the Giants made the Rockies work last night. Something like 283 pitches were thrown on the Rockies side. For some reason I find that stat incredible. Also glad they held on in a bullpen game.

Yankees and Phillies games postponed today because of the Canadian fires. One WNBA and one NWSL game were also called off.

Reds bring up their top prospect in Elly De La Cruz and he hits a 460 foot bomb that almost exits the ballpark. That was exciting.
I got lucky and was able to scoop him up in one of my Fantasy leagues. His debut night was pretty good all around, but I smiled when I saw he had that homer! :D

Did they actually un-retire the number?

I was watching it and saw the replays, he reminds me of Eric Davis and is wearing his old number 44.

IIRC , Adam Dunn is the only one that has jerked one outta the park and splashed the river...stay tuned.

Lisa Krasner, co-minority whip in Nevada senate (R-Carson City), says she's met with A's owner John Fisher and he's a "man of integrity." She says he said games will be affordable, so you can have a hot dog if you like.

Amazing people aren't falling all over themselves to give these guys money.

I am now 100 percent rooting for this to fall apart and Oakland to tell them to GTFO after 2024....make the A's homeless.

I believe, in my historical memory, if the A's move again they would be the only team to pass by the Braves in multiple city switches. They are currently tied at 3.
