Dude only makes $4 million a year and won’t be eligible for a raise for another three more years, when he’s 30, because the rules for baseball contracts are absolutely terrible. And I honestly don’t expect him to still be pitching then, so there goes some of his earning potential right there. And yet he freely gives more than a hundred grand to the guys making minimum wage. Good on him.

Your knowledge of what Japanese baseball does to pitchers is also legendary. How much use did Ohtani have prior to coming to MLB? Do you think that will be a concern for his longevity, even as just a pitcher?
All those years....first 19 years of my life in New England plus three more later on, and it never occured to me to call them Spankees. I love it. I think I'll call them that for good.

His usage wasn't outright abusive in NPB, unlike for example Masahiro Tanaka's, but he still threw a lot of innings, and the thing that people forget about pitcher usage is that they never factor in how much wear and tear simulated games, bullpen sessions and side sessions also put onto an arm. We've never seen a two-way player in the modern era of MLB like this, but I strongly believe that as he gets closer to being on the wrong side of 30, his arm strength is going to go away a lot more quickly than will his plate judgment and his swing speed.
The genie was out of the bottle the moment the border was opening to the NHL to fly in and out and then it spread to a full CFL season and then MLS, so it was only a matter of time. Frankly, the biggest problem with be the anti-vaxxers. I don't think they are going to listen to anyone telling them to stay inside, no matter what the MLB says.

Not only that, but players -- one person on the scene specifically said Fernando Tatis, Jr. -- were running into the stands to grab family and/or friends to bring into the clubhouse with them, as that was surely the safest place in the ballpark.
The first reaction of the fans was to exit the stadium. This of course was considered a bad move so they told everyone to stay put for the time being.
The Mets just pulled a "1962", against the Pirates no less. Taijuan Walker flipped a roller on the chalk line to the backstop w/bases loaded and decided to argue with the ump instead of getting the ball back. The Pirates scored 3.

Yeah, I guess it does kind of suck that teams can threaten to move if they don't get a new stadium built. But they do that because it WORKS. Simple as that.

I’m sorry, no sports team is worth a $12 billion dollar investment. We spent a billion dollars here for two stadiums 25 years ago, it simply isn’t worth it. We’ll still be paying for it after the Bengals move at the end of the decade.

Or they could invest in schools and infrastructure and luring real jobs to the area with their share of that money. If it is such a great investment, the A's themselves should have no issues paying for their stadium.
