MLB 2021 season: Corn-Driven Humidity

He's the absolute worst. I saw a YouTube video of the "last pitch of the last 20 World Series" and he was the voice on about 90% of the broadcasts the video showed. It was awful. Zero emotion, no resonance, sounds like he is reading a phone book but he just GETS LOUDER for some parts. Why oh why does he have a job?
Legacy. Daddy's legacy.

Spankees/Red Sux game today has been cancelled due to at least three positive COVID cases on the Spankees.

O/U on other teams having cases after the ASG?

Pretty high, I'm betting.

This isn't how over / under works. :mad:

Also, a total of six Yankees are in COVID protocols. Sounds like the All-Star Game may have been a mild superspreader event, as it sounds like Judge either had COVID or caught it there. MLB is now doing contact tracing on players who attended the game.

Yeah, I figured after I posted that...but I don't care. :shrug::lol:

Fuck, what a dumpster fire.

Well I don't bet, so no surprise I don't know the terminology. I reckon you're right about the ASG being a superspreader event for players. I imagine we'll start seeing upticks for fans at some point.

Considering Los Angeles County just reinstated its mask mandates, and the vast majority of baseball players--if not professional athletes in general--have openly railed against masks and vaccinations ... yeah, we're going to see a lot more games postponed over the next few months, just because some chucklefucks think, "Oh, people are getting shots, that means COVID is over, right?"

Edit: And of course I live in Iowa, where governor Kim Reynolds has signed orders prohibiting school districts, towns, cities and other municipalities from issuing mask mandates. Fuckin' suicide cult bullshit...

So, Joc Pedersen to the Braves for prospect Bryce Ball, apparently about 13 hours ago.

With Acuña out, maybe a good move for the Braves.

Not sad at all to see him go; while he had a few weeks in May during which he was mashing potatoes, outside of that he's been a tire fire at the plate and it got painful to see him trudged out almost every day, when he's clearly a platoon guy at best.

He was on fire during spring training and was hitting LHP better than RHP.

Ball seems to have at least been a highly touted 1B.

Ball's an interesting lottery ticket, but he's been badly overmatched by minor-league pitching this year, and he's only in High A, not even facing decent talent in AA or AAA. Not a great look, though he at least knows how to draw walks (.207 batting average, but .354 on-base).

I'm more worried about his size. He's 6'6" and supposedly 240 pounds, but looking at some online video clips, he looks a lot closer to 265 - 270, and with that kind of frame, he's already projecting more as a DH than a first baseman, similar to a certain beefy lad now mashing taters in Washington.
